I am loathe to pay £150 for the new 2TB box from Sky, but mine keeps filling up as I am recording lots of HD stuff.

So has anyone replaced the hard drive themselves on a normal HD box? looked on line and it looks quite complicated and isnt simply plug in the new one.

I did, put a 500GB in my old 320GB one. Was pretty straighforward as far as I remember.

Done it with the old box, wan't difficult, & used copy+ (pre HD, but I assume it'll still work) to transfer over data too. As you'll not manage to watch everything & not still have it filling full of new stuff..

Yep(Sky Engineer)done it on both versions of HD Box (the earlier PVR4 and later PVR5)

If you have the earlier box(PVR 4-physically bigger box) then you cannot go bigger than 1tb and you will need to prepare it using the Copy+ software mentioned previously, also if you ever do a system reset then it will only recognise 500mb of the 1tb available ,you would have to preapare it again with the copy+ software.

If its the later PVR 5 then you can just stick a 1 or 2TB harddrive in,do a full system reset, followed by a forced download and you should be a good to go.

The PVR 5 is internally identical to the later 1 and 2tb Boxes ,they just have the larger harddrive and a different outer casing.

Its pretty easy to swap the hard drives over on the earlier hd boxes ,to dismantle swap and reassemble can be done in about 20mins,its a lot more involved on the later boxes though as a lot more has to be removed dismantled to get to the harddrive but it is doable.

Yeah, as above - did it with an ordinary box and later a HD one IIRR

pretty sure I used copy+

Also, after a bit of googleage (is there a copy+ forum?), there seemed to be some drives that didn't work, so I bought one that had been reported to be compatible (also bought one that supposedly was designed for this sort of use - think it was a bit slower spinning and "designed" for continuous spinning)
