Getting podgy, running two businesses is making my food habits truly shocking. I like the idea of Huel as it apparently has all the right stuff in it.
anyone tried it or use it?
it filled me up, and I lost some weight, but flavour wise I'd rather just take a multi vitamin and then eat a pad of paper. Proper rank.
I have a few scoops in my breakfast shake - on it's own it's grim
(I have crohns so I generally have at least one liquid meal a day anyway)
I have no idea how anyone could live on the stuff - but to get nutrients/calories in quickly in liquid form it seems to work
There is Soylent Green product out there, same stuff a Huel, but cooler name.

I have a bag at work and use it when hungry in the afternoon instead of a trip to the crisp machine or before cycling home. It's certainly not tasty but I have got to tolerate it and add a scoop of rego to give it some flavour. It's helped me slowly lose a few kilos. Occasionally have it for lunch as well if busy - i couldn't eat it day in day out but it did get me off bad snack habits.

I can not fathom the attraction in choking down a pint of gruel.

You do know it's not gruel? It's dead people....
But it's not for weight loss it's food replacement.
Bloke at work had some for a while. For him it was a way to actually get some decent nutrition down his neck when he was doing early shifts. It seemed to work for him.
It did look like wallpaper paste though.
Me and wife have been having it for breakfast for about a month to get in all the nutrients we might miss through transitioning to a vegan diet. It's not the nicest texture wise, but made in the blender with a banana and a few blocks of ice makes it pretty tasty. It's not nice, but it's bearable.
This month I've last about 4 pounds and feel a lot fitter, might be placebo though.

Why replace food? Food is nice.
Exactly! It claims to be waste by product free or some such nonsense.
I'm going to give it a go - for breakfast and lunch anyway. I've got unfit, 10kg overweight and into some awful food habits so maybe this helps - along with getting back into actually riding more. I'm thinking Huel sounds like medicine - the worse it tastes the more good its doing.
On the other hand my better half is a great cook with an extremely extensive spice stock - Huel *might* make a decent neutral base for some tasty dahl like concoctions?
Eat a bowl of porridge and take a multivitamin
i have some joylent @ work for those "late night need to finish this" moments.
(joylent = soylent euro version)
taste wise it gets better if you let is sit (in the fridge) for a while which i never do since it's an "emergency" solution.
way better than eating chocolates or crisps.
won't be buying again, to me it's just some overpriced protein powder and finely shredded oats.
will be mixing myself for future use
if you want to use it longer term... add a multivitamin.
my 2 cents
You'd do better to eat a few dog biscuits a day, at least they contain all the vital minerals and vitamins.
Just be sure not to be hit by a truck when you're sitting in the road licking your bottom.
I tried it as i was commuting to work 36-56 miles a day, but after a couple of months not losing any further weight. Wanted a way of tracking accurately my calories in (with My Fitness Pal), but the trouble i found was that you can only sustain having it for a few days, after that the taste of "sawdust and oats" was so dull, i couldn't go on.
Finished it by mixing 2 scoops of Huel with 2 of Chocolate Rego
Spent £40 buying the starter pack which gave me two massive bags of the vanilla stuff. Honestly, i'd have been better just eating 4 £10 notes. Utterly awful and anyone that can stomach it deserves a medal.
Also gave me amazing wind, to the point where I felt like I might turn inside out at any moment.
I tried mixing it with
Drinking Chocolate powder
Coffee
Milk
Rego
Banana Nesquick
All utterly vile and none of it made it palatable. I gave both bags to a mate who uses it. He says he loses weight on it as he deliberately leaves his wallet at home forcing him to use it. He loses weight because most days he can't face it and doesn't eat at all...

Reminds me of a story by Saki: Filboid Studge.
Starter pack arrived yesterday.
I only tried the unflavoured/unsweetened so far - a glass last night as a trial and for lunch today.
It's absolutely fine and drinkable - it tastes kinda like porridge - pretty neutral. I can't see an issue other than boredom from a flavourless meal - but like say rice or potatoes it's surely a base to add flavour to.
I've ordered a cheap blender that blends straight into drinking bottles to be able to add flavour - maybe some berries etc for a breakfast shake or more savoury for lunch.
I'll let you know how it goes, and how the vanilla tastes.
