I've upgraded to Win7 but can't find a driver that works for the WLAN device (made by Atheros I think)

Surely go here and select your exact model.

If you can't find a driver remember Ubuntu 'just works' on most netbooks.

odd. Im sure when I tried W7 on mine (Aspire one, 1GB, Atom 1Ghz, 16GB+expansion SSD) I found a working driver at the acer site.

If you have no joy finding it, email me I have a driver somewhere. No guarantee its the write one,,.

Anyway, I found W7 just didnt work very well on my build. I use an n-lited version of XP and its perfect.

I've an Aspire 4810TZ, it came with Win7. Works.

Not sure where I'd find the driver - if you know the directory I can find it and email?

The directory should be C:\Windows\System32\drivers

Im sure when I tried a W7 install I used the native OS drivers with no problems.

Not on an Acer but a similar puzzling problem I had was rectified by disabling IPV6 on the wireless card
