Sorry no direct experience. But working at a University I have seen many people wrangle with the system. It is extremely expensive and any opportunity to reject the application means you lose the fee and have to start again / pay again, and the requirements tied to the visa can be onerous. In the current 'hostile environment' at the Home Office I don't envy anyone having to go through this.
