Got a dead simple job that needs doing in return for beer tokens/bike parts etc.

If you have - drop me a line - jonATfisherproductionsDOTcoDOTuk

Cheers

Yep, any more details? One person's dead easy might not be the same as someone elses 🙂

It's the base of a coffee tamper. It's currently the C-flat version

but I'd like to get the slight dome machined off so it's completely flat.

The other side has a tapped hole (not sure of the thread - probaly UNC) which could be used for workholding purposes.

Material is stainless steel

Sorry, i'll have to bow out from helping. I've not much experience of turning stainless and depending on the grade, the result would either look quite nice or a bit like it had been chewed by a gerbil 🙂

What grade of Stainless is it and is it hardened? I'm guessing its 440C? What grade of finish are you looking for?

I'm not an engineer, but think we could do it here at work. It wouldn't be using a lathe, it would be done using a surface grinder. The finish would not be very good at all, and could be quite coarse.

Doesn't need to be mirror finish, but reasonably decent. I'd be looking for something similar to that shown in the pics.

The steel is apprently 304 food grade.

I have a feeling grinding won't be up to par - I did try filing it down and my (admittedly a bit blunt) files didn't even begin to touch it.

My lathe wouldn't do that 🙁

Ah, i've done a bit with 303 which is a free cutting stainless, 304 isn't. I'd probably make a right pig's ear of it 🙂
Sorry!

Yea think you're right. Grinding would take ages, especially if its at 90 Rockwell! 😯
