Hi guys I've just bought an estate car and found it had this quite old but working Thule tow bar on it. Having never had one before I'm just wondering how it actually works. I've managed to insert the ball/neck into the bracket on the car and it locks in very solidly and to remove it you actuate the lever on the side and it pops off. My problem is all the tow bars I've seen have a key and lock on the detachable ball and this doesn't and I'm concerned that I'm fitting it correctly before I risk my bike on it!! Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

I'm guesting unless it has a key it won't lock. Ours has to be fitted with the key in, then locked before the key can be removed. When I fitted ours I was concerned. So I bounced two of us on it as a test and it hasn't budged when fitted.
