I have tickets to go to the Olympic Stadium 😀 and was wondering what photographic kit to take?
Read about the 30cm limit on camera gear, so will have to check what lengths of my lenses for my D-slr.
So..
What are you planning to take, or, what did you take 😉
Any pictures?
no 'professional' equipment is the rule.
so could be taken to mean anything, really 🙁
No it isn't. Nothing above 30cm is the rule.
How that is enforced, however, is another matter. I shall be taking a copy of The Rules with me in anticipation of [s]jobsworths[/s] ill-informed security staff on the gate.

Yes I read that, wonder if a D90 with a 70-300 stabilized lens is classed as pro kit 😉
Here:
Items that are restricted in London 2012 venues are:
...
Large photographic and broadcast equipment over 30cm in length, including tripods and monopods. You cannot use photographic or broadcast equipment for commercial purposes unless you hold media accreditation

ah, I must have missed the end of the twitter chat.
Apprently, this is what G4S have been issued with.
I'll be taking a copy of that, too.
30cm extended or collapsed? And what about lens hoods?
Dunno why I am asking, I have no tickets.
Sure I read that the camera kit bag must not be bigger than 30cm x 20cm x 20cm too?
Bags (generally, not just camera bags) have to be "small" - sub 25L - and soft-sided as they have to fit under seats. I'm not aware of any specific size restrictions beyond that, unless you've got more info?
I read about the case size here cougar, but seen nothing mentioned on the official website apart from what you said.

I'm going to the footie at Wembley tomorrow & will be taking my D80 with 70-300 lens. Measured it last night and it comes to ~25cm. Gonna take it in the holster & chest harness I use for riding.
My parents are only a 15 min walk away (I'm going with them) so if they (g4s) don't play ball I can just run back with it before the game starts...
It would be cynical of me to wonder if LowePro published figures that just happen to marry up with their product range, right?
Would you mind posting back here stumpy on how you get on?

lol, could well be 😉
What an absolute joke of a rule.
I wonder if you'd get away with any DSLR with a small lens like a 50mm prime fitted, then another lens in your bag/pocket or carried by someone else?
I'd take a Micro 4/3rds with me with one of the telephotos. Much smaller length lenses for the same zoom.

*shakes head*
I imagine that the quality of picture and of image would more than likely bring the professional photography industry to its knees. For this reason alone I'm calling the IOC and informiong them of your cunning plan.

Yeah. Meant to say I'd get back to you as to how it goes.

I'm debating doing this, but taking my 18-135 in a rucsack wrapped in a waterproof.
Tomorrow I think I'll take my little Nikon compact for family & close-up shots and then just leave the big lens on the SLR. Not sure I can be bothered with swapping lenses to be honest; rather be watching the action & waving my inflatable Union Jack hand!!
