MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Made a drunken purchase over the weekend, I am now the owner of a rather rusty MK2 Chopper, wanted one as a kid but I was born at the time of the BMX. Any owners on here who can offer advice or inspiration for my project, and make me feel a little happier.
Rant over
Matt
try onestopchoppershop. it's owned by one of the biggest chopper fans out there. I don't own one but i've heard thats the place to get old and obsolete parts.
Yep, got some of my stuff from Onestopchoppershop. Have a look here too. Mine cost an arm and a leg and plenty of elbow grease to restore and I sold it for relative peanuts (and the wasters who bought it never left feedback 👿 ) - enjoyable project though.

<wipes a tear away>
awful bikes.
the strika and boxer were where it was at...
skids are for kids
cool bikes great for pulling wheelies with,
I had one in black that had been stickered up as 'Battle Wagon' never found out if it was an official limited edition one or just been buggered about with. Them 3-speed gears were shocking!
mamadirt your pre resto pic just looks like mine looks a very nice job you did.
Make sure you post some pics of your resto - I had a step by step photo account with costs in my fotopic gallery but deleted it last year 😐 . Most of the bits and pieces came from ebay or Daren at the Choppershop. Thought it would be more rewarding to strip and spray it myself but ended up spending around £50 on primer, colour coat and lacquer (just bog standard Halfords stuff - Vauxhall Midnight Black irc) - bought new seat foam and made the cover myself with black vinyl from the local haberdashers. I think altogether it cost me around £400 to complete (I paid just over £100 for it originally) and I sold it for around £250 😥 .
It will be slow progress but will make sure I keep you updated.
Not yet arrived from the eBay seller 😥
tinsy, cheers fella will see what its like and drop you a mail.
Ahhh my next project - stunning bikes.
Respect due for drunken purchase!
Was it an Ebay/drinking purchase perchance? They're always the best IMO!
Wake up next morning wondering what you did the night before to find out you've bought a mini in Hampshire! 😆

Yes mate just waiting on it to arrive, been calling the wife everyday to see if its turned up 😀
You will be supprised how small they are!
I am 6'4" 8)
Tinsy - has yours been resprayed it looks rather smart.
yeah, lots of it was new old stock stuff, the wheels were freshly re build with original rims re chromed, the paintwork isnt stunning close up but its alright, the bars on it are wrong, I have the right bars but they are a bit twisted.
Got a very unusal hub though its an original NOS sturmey 5 speed (not availiable in the UK), its got a toggle chain either side, I got an original Chopper twin shifter to go on it to run them but am having trouble sourcing a new 5 speed bezel for it.
I show my true geeky self here dont I?
Its arrived in a rubble bag and has at least 10 years worth of rust 😥 to be honest think the sellers dragged it from the Canal. Misses has gone mad that I spent £112 on a bag of s@it
i had a original one when i was a kid, i hated it, could'nt keep up with any of my mates on normal bikes, nearly lost my nackers loads of times, going downhill was faster sat on a action man tank and to top it off when my mate was giving me a push (as you do when your ten) the front wheel went down a pothole' stopped dead and he smashed three of his front teeth out on the sissy bar, happy memories, i always wanted a grifter after they came out, probabley why i've got five bikes now because my first one (the chopper) was such a disapointment, they look nice though,
I loved my old orange mk1 but **** those front tyres used to wear out quick. They where a bit fragile too,my dad had to take mine into work as it needed welding in 5 places !
Learnt to ride on a Tomahawk, + learnt it hurts when you crash! (major speed wobble through drifted sand at bottom of a steeep hill). Hmmm, what's on e-bay...?
Not since 1979, but it was way cool back then.
Great mountainbike and jump bike for Cranham woods and Juniper quarry. No idea how.
It was passed on to my brother who fitted racer forks he fished out of a skip. That made it ubercool.
Oh yeah, don't try and get into a tuck to coax it past 50mph. Really. Don't.
My Mark 2 black prismatic is now rescued from the parental garage where it lurked behind an old wardrobe for 20 years, and is in my dining room awaiting some attention with the wire wool. Which it is far too cold to go into the garden and do. And yes, it seems to have shrunk!
Regularly used to get 40mph on the speedo going down Sheffield's hills when I was about 10... (though the accuracy of an analogue speedo fitted without instructions by my dad may be questionable)
