I suffered an intra articular distal radius fracture 7 weeks ago (fell off motorbike). I had traction followed by a closed reduction and my wrist was set pointing pinky down about 20 degrees. I had my plaster removed 7 days ago, it still felt like it was broken, my wrist and hand were still swollen.

As I push through the pain with my physiotherapy regime, my range is returning nicely and the wrist moves a lot better (no change in swelling or pain though)

What concerns me though is the pain on the opposite(ulnar) side, from wrist to elbow (and complete lack of strength). I think I may have torn the muscles(tfcc?) badly. Should I continue to try and force the range to return to my wrist, or should I give the tfcc a chance to heal through rest?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it's another 7 days before I see the physio again.

James

Edit: Oh, and I have loss of sensation in the hand and fingers, the skin feels scaly too. Is this normal?

Phone your physio dept and ask to speak to someone who actually knows about your case.

Asking medical questions here = danger...

Sponging-Machine, you're right and I did. Today and yesterday. Unfortunately my physio dept apparently hasn't received my notes from the fracture clinic (even though they're only 50ft apart!) and can't advise me either!

Well your description made my hands go all weak (good job I was never a doctor) - sounds pretty grim.

Good luck with it all - any private physios around? Mine is worth every penny and has "fixed" me three times when I've fallen to bits.

Even TJ will not give you advice on this sort of stuff, see your specialist.

Even TJ? All due respect but isn't TJ a nurse? I was hoping for a physio or an orthobod with experience of a similar (tfcc vs wrist recovery) injury. I know it's a long shot but I was on here anyway and as I said my specialists are not very special. Thanks anyway

its a clear cut case of needing to MTFU and stop crying like a bitch about a little tumble. Nobody cares, just get back to work and stop bludging off the state.

Lol. I went back to work a month ago and it's my right arm and I'm right handed. If I MTFU any more I'll be John ****ing Rambo. Don't push me.

The point is TJ knows lots and lots but even he will tell you an online diagnosis is guff.

😀 for TJ in case you read this.

The above description is as much as my physio knows. She advised me. So all I've had so far, or can get immediately, is 'guff'.
