Good morning,

I have a short questionnaire aimed mainly at those who participate in mountaineering/extreme sports here (if you just do mountainbiking, please only answer if your rides are all day, right out in the wilderness/middle of nowhere type things!)

It's only 5 questions and should take 1-2 minutes to complete. I'll take it down once it has reached 50 results!

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Done, though I think question 5 is a little bit broad. are you asking for specific safety equipment like helmets etc or first aid equipment?

Strange, seems to be working OK for me and others.
Thanks for the input highclimber, have adjusted it accordingly (not just first aid etc, general things to make sure you stay safe/well)

Please do not use the phrase "extreme sports". climbing mountains has been going on for a couple of centuries. Its not doing back flips on a skate board. Nor for that matter is riding a bike in the woods or down a steep hill.

Quiz done. Seems very vague. I guess there is something deeper to follow for you.

It is fairly vague, it's for for background information/basic behaviour rather than anything in depth- different methods will be used for the more specific research.

I would categorize climbing and mountainbiking (in certain disciplines) as extreme sports (I do both), but I guess it's just down to opinion.

Thankyou for the input.

So do I, and I don't, so I'm quite sure I'd be very frustrated if I attempted your questionnaire.

Just what extreme about climbing or riding a bike?
Ah yes that's what telly calls it.
Just how did we manage in the old days ? 😆
Can't think of any mountaineering vaguely "extreme". Soloing was the first climbing so that's the norm really. Making allowances for the video age kids I might just put freestyle BMX in their little niche.
That aside, where is the quiz going? It looks to be interested in dealing with emergencies.

You're joking right? If you're not joking then I assume you're just doing the age old STW trick of commenting on something you know absolutely nothing about?

Well that's a first. I don't know anyone who self applies the phrase 'extreme sports' to what they do and I know some properly rad dudes. 😉

I've always considered it a piece of media / marketing guff made up by people who have no clue about those activities.

matsccn would probably argue it's not sponsored by Red Bull and therefore not 'extreme'.

Aye, it's probably lost in translation thanks to the media. Skateboarding is "extreme", but the first winter ascent of an 8,000er isn't? :). Yeah right

I'd go as far to say that high altitude mountaineering in particular is one of the few sports which could truly be called extreme.

Greater than one in ten chance of dying for 6000+ in Nepal, not far behind BASE jumping. A healthy chance of death whilst participating in a sport probably pushes it into the definition of extreme. That said, BASE jumping makes far better go pro footage so that why it might not fit in red bulls definition of extreme 😉
