Longshot but anybody in ayreshire that occasionally drive to london with space in the car for a large box?

I've seen something for sale that i'd like but its collection only and i'm not so keen as to drive that far, so I'm seeking a favour.

I could get it as far south as newton Stewart on Sunday, if that's any good? 😂

Humm, as much as I'd like this thing, a gnusmasmobile style relay is probably not warranted. Thanks though.

Worth bribing a local to collect and just arranging a courier for it instead ?

The seller may well be happy to work with a courier, I'll have to get a quote from parcel2go. I expect it won't be cheap as it's large, and fairly heavy at about 37 kg iirc. It's also slightly fragile.... Good combo eh! It's a large astronomy telescope.

Ah, yeah no courier is gonna touch that with a bargepole.

£100 for a weekend return to Glasgow, may be better off just transporting it yourself depending on how large it is. I'd collect and hold if you wanted (but not that day, I'm working that weekend).

Ups via Parcelhero, £24 but uninsured as 'item contains glass' is on the list they don't insure.

I might risk it, although it would sting to receive a borked telescope.

I've possibly got a random internet forum dweller from elsewhere that could do it, lives in Ayr and is coming to London in a few weeks. Tricky bit is he'll have the family and luggage so may not have space. I've just looked up the exact sizes and he is considering. It's even bigger than I thought. It's 42kg, 2 boxes both 105x25x40cm, ish. Unless he has s very big car o can't see that fitting along with luggage!

105x25x40cm is not big, goes in mine sideways...and weighs less than 2 25 kilo bags of cement.

I could possibly get it to Duncan soon, I'm going down on Sunday, but I'm away to Arran all day tomorrow, so it won't be this weekend.

I’m another in Ayrshire (Troon) that could collect and store it. I do go to Kent occasionally to see my mum but no current / imminent plans to head down at the moment.

I'm in Largs, down to Prestwick 3 times a week.

(wonder how big a relay we can get going)

Unfortunately for me the seller won't deal with anyone but the actual purchaser. Still, I feel upbeat because of all the kind offers of help here, many thanks, but not needed agree all.

Frustrating but I can understand nervousness about middle men. Add disappointing as it is I am left heartened by the response here, stw is great!

Lol Duncan, trouble is no one could see the add on sgl, classifieds are hidden until you've been s member for s month. It's a anti scam thing

That could be part of the issue, I only joined this week, but before that rule came in.

Can't be that desperate to sell then if he's going to be picky. Good luck to him.

Can’t be that desperate to sell then if he’s going to be picky.

sellers tend to be wary of scams. A distant buyer saying ‘my representative will come to collect’ has some of the ingredients of a classic scam. Not all of them, but enough to make them twitchy.

it would be easier for the op to pass on the details to someone local and for that person to be ‘the buyer’ that way the seller is only dealing with one person rather than with any intermediaries.

I'd offer cash on collection.

No scam then....

I mean which scammer is going to want a telescope....

Not really worth speculating about why the seller is nervous. They ruled out dealing with a middle men or a courier. Will only hand over to the actual buyer. Didn't get as far as asking how they would like payment. So that's that.
