Goy a small enclosed terrace as a garden, it's south facing with high stone walls, was thinking of some pots with herbs and "something" flowering

Any recommendations?

Rosemary def for a pot plant, great herb to use plus enjoys sunny positions.

May be a climber like a jasmine...likes sunny places and lets of an amazing scent in the evenings.

Jasmine for sure ... plenty of options with regards to potted herbs, like tyme, mint and lemon grass and easy to maintain

How about some small tomatoes in a pot - pretty satisfying.

You can get some great tumbling tomatoes if you have anywhere to put hanging baskets to maximise your space

Sounds lovely!

I'd recommend getting a few really big troughs, rather than lots of small pots. Then you won't need to water so often.

I would look at anything that can climb the walls - less intrusive into what is (I assume) a small space. Use wall-mounted planters too.

I am rubbish at the names but I think clematis is the one my wife plants alongside our tatty fences to hide them (until I strim the stems (oops) .

I also create tiered herb pots out of old plantpots. Be sure to put any mint in one without a drain hole otherwise it will take over everything else though.

Something like this

I'm guessing you want pretty easy care stuff?
So herbs - Lavender has good flowers, Curry plant is good, personally I love English Mace for its flowers, then think of a Bolognaise sauce herbs = small Bay tree, Thyme, Oregano/Marjoram and Sage

Climbing flowers - Morning Glory (phnarr) are good for a summer and easily grown from seeds as are Nasturtiums which you can use the leaves/flowers in salads or a summer flowering clematis (with the pot in a shady part)

Mint is very invasive, which makes it easy to grow, but pot on its own as it will otherwise take over.

Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Lavender, Bay, Dill and the king of herbs - Tarragon (french, not russian)

Check ebay for plug plants, much cheaper than garden centres and usually very good quality control too.

Mmmmmm..... Roast chicken and tarragon sauce...

BTW, in my herb pots I have parsley, thyme, rosemary, chives, mint (and a couple others I can't bloody remember). I especially like using the mint with new potatoes grown in my garden, or equally using the chives to make potato salad.

Mmmmm

I small courtyard with high walls sounds like a perfect micro climate for a tropical themed space. More info to follow if I have time. 8)

There's more to patio pot plants than herbs! Great wee seasonal displays from mixed bedding, they'll cover the surface area and reduce moisture loss. Little cypress look amazing in the bright green when contracted with some dark geraniums or similar. Small ivy, 2-3 per pot allowed to trail around the sides.

Herbs I'd get Thyme or Oregano for visual appeal, or lavender. A good nursery will have a number of types to choose from.

Hebe does well in pots, Pieris and Peonies too. A mix of seasonal, evergreen and perennial can be quite nice.

Get a honeysuckle in a large pot for the bumblebees, and for the nice smell obviously……I also recommend a nice stocky Ruderalis Indica from Sensei Seeds - low in THC/high in CBD so a very sociable, easy going smoke that also smells very nice 😉
