I've got a faulty pcb in my car heater control. Thanks to the internet I've found the faulty component: An SLD24 ( http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/122722/LITTELFUSE/SLD24-018.html) transient voltage suppressor.

I can probably get a replacement on-line but I need a high street solution as my dash is hanging out and its not an easy job to pop it out again.

Option 1. Just remove the component. This works but I wont have any protection.

Option 2. Bits from maplin. Will this work?:

Four 12v zeners ( http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=19091) connected like this:

--->|->|--|<-|<--- (if that makes sense)

I remember Fords having this prob on 91 escorts.

I just had the board copied.

Are you trying to bypass a module by copying it's circuit on to a board?

Tried the scrapyard?

If I'm not very mistaken, yes you solution of 4 zens will work fine, assuming you have matched or exceeded the power dissipation requirements.
