I've got the dreaded " anti pollution error" on my van, its in limp mode at the moment. I've been to a diagnostic specialist who told me its got a fault code relating to the fuel system. He said to try in this order:-

Fuel filter (done that still the same)

Fuel pressure regulator ( i'll come back to this)

or Fuel pressure sensor on the rail

now i've made a gap so I can get to the fuel pressure regulator (or Pressure Control Valve depending one whos telling me about it), on the pump there are two sensors, a big fat one with massive spanner flats on the bottom of the pump and another slimmer one up the top. Now the Haynes manual and various google searches will turn up the former (where it is described as a Fuel Control Valve) but I cant seem to find any reference to the other sensor?

Fuel filter in the tank or split pickup tube in the tank ....just an idea. was it ok before the light came on ?

I had a similar once on a Ducato cleared itself, i had been pulling a trailer and was seriously overloaded went into limp mode but cleared itself after a rest.

We had a Dispatch 1.6 hdi that did that. I eventually traced it to a tiny pin hole in a plastic fuel suction pipe - the pressure sensor error was just the sensor telling the truth (air bubbles and a blip in the fuel pressure).

The pipe had rubbed through where it clipped to the end of the air filter casing. I discovered it when trying a fuel filter change - could hear it sucking a bit of air when squeezing the fuel primer rubber bulb.

Maybe something like that?

Is it a  2 litre? That sounds like the EGR valve. My Scudo went through approx. 3 of them which left me on the side of the road a few times. Was looking into blanking it off but then sold it. Gives warning that it's about to fail by going into limp mode and message on the dash, restarting used to bring it back to life. When the valve finally goes the end breaks off then the engine wont run / move the vehicle keeps stalling.

They aren't that difficult to replace and cost about £80 - £100. Located at the back of the engine up top right (if facing the front of the car)

what was the P code for the fault.

*fault relating to fueling* is about as vague as it can get.

the anti polution fault light on fiats is the catch all for every single fault that can happen bar specific brake / ESP faults.

sorry all, been mega busy fixing my flat roof.

Its a 2.0hdi yeah but EGR is blanked off

yeah Wiki, running lovely before it tripped, oddly even with the Anti Pollution errror flashing sometimes the van runs as if there is no problem (making me think its an  intermittent wiring problem)

i'll check all the hoses tomorrow when i'm going through the wiring

P0088 is the fault code - Fuel Rail System Pressure too High

just working my way around but loath to change any sensors until I've checked the wiring, hopefully have a bit of time at it tomorrow

cheers the replies though, gives me ideas for things to look for

Ok I'll take fuel pressure regulator simply because it's a common fault on common rail diesels.

Fuel pressure regulator/valve is the one on the bottom of the pump, swapped that no difference. The sensor on the common rail is , according to the Haynes Manual not changeable (despite it being a screw fit and the same engine in another vehicle says it can be changed), i've got my local motor factor trying to locate the part otherwise I have to change the rail 🙁

first things first, get the mutli-meter out and check the wiring loom, a long boring day of staring at wires beckons

further news, tested the wiring from all the sensor relevant (and some that probably werent) no problems so based on P0088 I replaced the common rail sensor and P0088 has gone (yay) only to be replaced by P0193 and P1210 (nooooo)

P0193 is Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit High (P0088 was Fuel Rail System/Pressure too High)

so a similar but slightly different error , i'm running out of sensors to try, someone suggested fuel pump

P1210 could be a multitude of things, some say its the camshaft speed sensor, or maybe the MAP, ive tested both and they appear to be functioning (as much as a multimeter can tell you)

so I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to go next, i've still got the same problem in that (apart from limp mode) the bugger wont start unless I throw some EZ Start at it, once its running its fine (apart from limp mode)
