I haven't worn my wedding ring for years because of my job (google "degloving" if you want to know why...).

It's our 30th wedding anniversary this year and I'd like to surprise my wife by starting to wear it again. However, I'd like to combine the original ring, a simple thin band, into something more contemporary (probably off the shelf) but I'm not made of money and no longer have access to machine tools so can't do it myself. Can anyone help?

Just a bump for you mate. Most I've ever done it repair a ring with silver solder which was terrifying in case I melted it. It has huge sentimental significant for my oh.

My son just had an engagement ring resized smaller for a wedding proposal, cost bloody £90.😐

I made rings etc to supplement funds when a students.

I local jeweller Jon Diben was very helpful getting me going.

tools / supplies / gold etc check out

Cookson Gold in Hatton Garden (used to be called Exchange Findings)

And HS Walsh & Son also in Hatton garden.

Both do mail order

for a decent book:

Jewelery Making Manual by Sylvia Wicks.

basic tools for rings:

small gas torch, charcoal block, tapered ring mandrel, 1/2round pliers.

simpler option is to buy a ring blank and use that as a basis. Loads to choose from.

first item I made was a simple 18ct white/yellow bank in quarters for my now wife, lasted years until local hospital had to cut it off. Must get round to doing another.

(google “degloving” if you want to know why…)

Probably not a good idea, just the words pretty much paint an unpleasant picture… 🤢

My friends run The Jewellery Bench in Warwickshire.

If you're anywhere near you could either do it as part of a class or ask them to.
