My Norton is about to run out an was wondering if I can do as good if not probably better?

You definitely don't want something as [i]good[/i] as Norton, you want something better, much better.
Microsoft Security Essentials. Free, and when you eventually manage to get Norton uninstalled you'll notice your PC is faster too.
Norton doesn't remove itself very well from Windows, use this tool first:

Restart and then install this:
