Thump has just received new hearing aids via the NHS.
They are ReSound Upsmarts and use the ReSound Smart app.
All good but the app requires a phone running either Android KitKat (4.4.2 - 4.4.4), Lollipop (5.0 or higher) or Marshmallow (6.0.1).
His current phone is running Android v9.0!
So - we're looking at how to solve this so he can tune the hearing aids at school etc.
All the compatable phones are either very expensive or very old (Samsung Galaxy S9 to S4).
Is there a way to take a modern cheap phone and install an old Android system?
Can we sideload the app (how?)
Is there another solution other than an ear trumpet?
Cheers!

Have you tried installing the app on his current phone? Sounds like they just haven't tested it extensively but it will likely work as most of the phones listed are running newer versions of Android.
I'm not aware of any major compatibility changes between Android 6 and now so even if they really haven't updated it for years it should still work.
My dad just got a Doro 8035 for exactly this reason Crispin - I think it's android 6 if you stop it upgrading when you turn it on.
I've pulled out the apk file, let me know if you'd like me to send it to you to try sideloading.
Does this help?
Kelron - cheers.
I've found an apk file and have installed the app onto Thump's phone.
Fingers crossed that it will work when the hearing aids return from basketball practice.
