I remember walking to school 'smoking' those chocolate cigarettes and when it was cold you could see your breath for extra realism.

Refreshers are definitely up there, also I used to love a Liquorice Toffee sweet to as a kid, but can't remember the brand or name. Still partial to Parma Violets even now. Grew up near the Swizzles factory so they'll always be firm favourites. But also used to love these, though technically might not be categorised as sweeties....

Flying saucers were mentioned on the first page 😉

I was rather fond of white mice or Haribo rhubarb and custard.

I was going to say flying saucers or chocolate covered candy bananas. But I'd not be unhappy with a bag of refreshers.

Yeah, that.  Even had their own theme tune - diddly dow, diddly dow, diddly dow-de-dow

Best lost adult sweet was the Cabana bar 🙁

Best current adult sweet is Riesen

I don't eat sweets any more, now I'm on the type2 naughty step 🙁 🙁 🙁

Love hearts

Chocolate limes

Cherry lips

Floral gums

Although my favourite was probably chewing nuts as mentioned a few times above.

Chocolate limes

Chocolate limes were singularly disgusting.  The lime bit was tolerable but the "chocolate" was a crime against confectionery.

Also, parma violets, they weren't sweets, they were breath fresheners for Victorian schoolgirls.

Agreed! Had one again a couple of years ago and had to spit it out it was so mingin.  Certainly an acquired taste!

This is making me feel old rather than hungry. Cola cubes especially for some reason. Some repressed memory somewhere doubt

A bag of tesco sherbert lemons got me to the Lake District and back last weekend, I'm now going to buy some proper old sweets online! I remember every November time I used to love a bonfire toffee lolly that used to get sold at a local shop, it was immense. Looooove parma violets, have a packet in my cupboard and with the added beenfit that nobody else in the house likes them means they've been there for a week or two now!

So they were, I’d read through it a couple of times and missed it. Still stands up under close scrutiny, though!

Has no one mentioned wine gums (their my favourite)or jelly babies or are they not children’s sweets?

You can still buy a lot of this stuff from “specialist” shops (cough)

The little sweet shop in Pately Bridge high st sells all this stuff.

Its a stop of our for Yorkshire Mix and 12 different varieties of Liquorice...

Yeah those nasty choc paper cigarettes which you could exhale through and sugar type flour mix would gove that smoke effect.

Used to buy them from baker’s round the corner when I was like 7 yrs. took me another year to have my first puff on a real one that another kid nicked a pack of b&h gold from his father.

Got caught by a bobby and frogmarched home.

Which proves smoking is not cool nor clever

MR TOM’s might not be a sweet but they have nostalgia written all over them for me.

We all know that the best things in life come on threes.
