A few months back I discovered these standing stones which were not on any historic record.

I reported them to the appropriate authority in Scotland and they sent a team out to investigate.

Visions of fame and glory passed fleetingly through my mind, but sadly it was not to be. They have decided they were of recent origin. They are however, about 5m away from the remains of an ancient trackway.

So now the question is how the hell did someone manage to plant those two rocks there without leaving huge gouges and tracks in the soft earth.

How recent is 'recent'? My dad was a geologist and there's a saying that you know you are one when anything that happened in the last hundred thousand years is 'recent'... not quite the same for archaeology but they could mean 'recent' as in 'the last century or two'?

I'm reminded of when, during the Icelandic volcano that caused air havoc over the northern hemisphere a news channel trotted out someone they introduced as a "Volcanologist". The interview went along the lines of

</div>
talking head - "So your a volcanologist for xyz university.."

Geologist - "No, I'm a Geologist"

talking head - "So how long do you think this eruption will go on for?"

Geologist "It's really impossible to say with any certainty"

talking head - "But do you think it will be over soon?"

Geologist getting exasperated - "In Geological terms, yes, very soon"
