We will be in touch
At the risk of taking the grumpy old git of STW title, I’ve been driving to work listening to the news and there are two things this morning which have really bolied my piss.
1) Minimum pricing for alcohol to address binge drinking: What utter cock! Your average weekend binge drinker is not going to be affected one jot by this. Going out and getting lashed to the point of oblivion is not the exclusive province of the poor. The reality is that this will lamp the Special Brew and Diamond White drinkers, and will merely encourage them to shop lift a little earlier in the week as the benefits run out. Binge drinking is a social issue, and needs addressing with fast and effective policing. Personally, I would go for a drunk tank, followed by a swift court appearance requiring a lower standard of evidence preferably the following morning, an immediate sentence along the lines of cleaning the town centre with a tooth brush. A certainty of being caught and a low cost highly unpleasant outcome will be far more effective than tampering with the economics of the issue.
2) Levinson: Same thing really. Fast low cost and effective retribution being the key. Personally I reckon if you are wronged in the press, you should receive equal air time and in equal prominence as the original slur. That apart all the things they are looking at are already criminal, so additional law won’t change it…. Will it?
I reckon half the problems in this country are exacerbated by the lawmakers, who strangely very often have a vested interest in the areas they are legislating about. Simple, quick and effective being the way forward IMHO.
Hangin's too good for em
Who's rattled your cage this morning 😉
I have to agree, why should those of us who can control our alcohol intake to a few drinks a week be financially impacted on by the behavour of a bunch of morons?

At the risk of stating the obvious...... Putting up the price of Special Brew!!! WTF

Just drink decent stuff - Black Sheep's already well above the minimum price! (Especially in Australia...)
i agree, putting up the price of alcohol wont affect me, as i rarely drink, but even when i do go out on the lash the last thing on my mind is the price of a pint.
imo people go out and get hammered at the weekend partly because working weeks are getting longer and harder so many peeps feel the need to unwind. *partly*

I just posted some calculations on the other thread but the TL;DR version is, you won't be.

I believe that in response to ever spiralling bar prices, the M.O. of your average binge drinker these days is to get utterly trousered before they leave the house. If you were to tax the pumps harder, the only people that are likely to be affected in any sort of meaningful manner are publicans.
The US tried prohibition as a means of control once. All that happened was that a lot of people went blind.
AHHHH....the smell of Black Sheep in the evening...its the smell of victory....
(when taken on the beach at Robin hoods Bay as I recall)
I heard the news today, oh boy...
Already the widespread flooding is sliding down the agenda...

Something like that. I do recall being mightily miffed about the tide being out and finding a rock pool to stand in! The beer was inspired though!
You're really on a roll this week...!
By the way, I'm already staring down the barrell of minimum pricing, sort of - I'm working in the Midlands but the RAF kindly posted the missus to Lossiemouth so we've got extra cost to our favourite single malt to think about. On the other hand, there's some hills that might intimidate you and the rest of East Anglia Mountain Rescue Team a bit and (maybe another area England and Wales could follow Scotland on...) any trail's fair game on the bike so at least there's some benefits...!

Just plain wrong. We went round to some mates for dinner last week. We ate, we drank, we talked crap for a few hours. According to current warped linguistics we were all binge drinking. Nobody did anything illegal, no "fast and effective policing" was required.
Again, last night in the restaurant. I had a pint, but the couple of girls next to us celebrating one's 22nd shared a bottle of champagne. Again, no fast and effective policing necessary.
We do see violent thugs getting pissed in town and acting like violent thugs. this does require fast and effective policing. You know what, most of the time, sober or not, these people act like violent thugs, because that's what they are.
It's L-E-V-E-S-O-N, can nobody spell it rite?! 😉
