My youngest was looking with interest at these but it's something I know nothing about. Does anyone's kids use these or have any advice on what to avoid? Don't need another thing that dies after a week really

I was looking at these on eBay today, what worried me was the warning about the temperature on the end of pen, over 200 deg C!

I got one on an amazon deal a few weeks ago, tbh it's not very good - unless you have a fan blowing quite hard the filament takes so long to cool that it's sagged out of shape before it hardens; don't believe any of the videos where people make a perfect cube or draw a bridge, I reckon you'd need an air conditioner on full chat blowing over your hands to cool that quickly.

One thing that does work quite well is to draw the faces of your structure on greaseproof paper then assemble the sides into a 3d shape.

The end does get hot but mine is well insulated and unless you touch the ceramic tip only gets warm to the touch.

edit: it was one of these but I only paid £10 for it, I wouldn't want to spend £35 on one

oo thanks folks. I thought this thread had died a death. We need a special word for threads that never get any replies.

Thanks for the info. I get the impression that the 'real' ones are 90 squids plus and the cheaper ones are, well cheaper ones. I'll take a look at your link for info. MikeG
