[Closed] Amazingly good restaurant meal in Southampton

Don't normally do recommendation but had a meal in Quay 15 in Southampton that was exceptional. It is a small place, perhaps 25 covers, and quite informal. The service was great - I had mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and there was a card on our table signed and with messages from the staff - discreet but friendly.

The food was a revelation. I eat in restaurants a lot when away on work and have been to some really nice places and this was up there with the best. It was a set price menu - £30 for 2 course or £35 for three and the wine was £20-£30 a bottle.

The only down sides to the place is that to get to the marina/quay you have to drive through an industrial area so the approach doesn't look great and it because it is near the docks I have a long way to go to collect my car today.

Mmm, Shamrock Quay - brings back lots of memories!

Sounds like a good place to eat but we're no longer in the area. Might bear it in mind for lunch if we are ever in town.

I hope your car is still there!

WCA thanks, will see if they have spaces this weekend. Sounds like the classic case of a restaurant in a relatively poor location having to have above average food and service to attract business. I like that.

Closed over the bank holiday, ie as usual no Sunday / Monday opening. Well it's their business and they can run it how they want but that's truly daft.

I used to sail a lot from Shamrock Quay. The chandlery used to get done over once in a while by the denizens of the local estate, and while driving away one sunny Sunday afternoon I saw the roughest "sex worker" I have ever seen, working the street corner. Quite a funky area. But there has been a restaurant there for years so they must rely on the sailing crowd or word of mouth.

Thanks for the heads up - I'll mention it to the missus.

On the sunnier side of the Solent here, but definitely worth knowing about.

What's the nearby pub called? A proper spit and sawdust place. Where I nearly talked myself into a beating from some smelly bikers while dressed as Super Mario.

The platform. Was in there on weds and had tapas (very nice too) at le regatta. Couple of friends had been to that new pub and recommended it as well. If anyone can't picture it, it was the old titanic museum.

Apparently the grill house (in the thai pavilion) is also worth a try.

Edit - or the Red Lion. That's the one with a parrot and suit of armour....

Thinking about it, it could have been as much as 15-16 years ago.

@nico, yes similar experience. I've sailed out of there a bit, I used to try and get a lift so I didn't have to park my car there 😐

@thegreatape

One with literally sawdust on the floor? The Frog and Frigate perhaps. Tiny little place. The 'stage' was little more than a shelf.

Back on track Quay15 was really good when we went their last year.
