Somewhere that will accommodate 2 families of 4 with 4 young kids. Pool / Spa would be nice.
Looking for a weekend rather than a week - lodges at Staveley Hall sort of thing.
Any suggestions?

A bit further north but have a look at Crieff Hydro. It's fantastic for families. You can stay in the hotel or there are nice villas onsite. There is loads to do there as well.

The self catering cabins on the Langdale Estate might fit the bill.

In the heart of the Lake District, Spa/pool onsite, bars and restaurants and great walking and riding.

Have a look at http://www.pinelodgeholidays.co.uk/darwin-forest-country-park.html ].

We've stayed their a couple of times and have really enjoyed it.
