Son has nicked my G Shock so am after a watch that:

- is tough
- solar powered and ideally atomic signal accuracy
- has a stopwatch
- analogue face
- not too expensive!
- waterproof
- nothing else

My G Shock was great except, it was an analogue face but the digital dials were tiny and I struggled to read them so G Shock won't really sort me here.

Any other brands to look at - thanks

jools - you got me thinking now!

mountainmutant - wow. But price wow too. Out of interest, I'm assuming the chrono runs on the analogue?

Dunno about the solar powered bit but Suunto do some great watches.

Ive had an X9i (with gps tracking) for years but have used the basic models before and they certainly do the job. Many bargains to be had on ebay .... 😉

Mountainmutant that's lovely. Aus, I have one of these, it's not G tough and not analogue but it's one hell of an outdoor time piece.

blimey, it's amazing how quickly you can start really 'needing' stuff ... quite fancy a barometer, altitude now as well!

I think there are only 2 valid price ranges for a watch. One is under £20 (a Timex Expedition will give you years of accurate visible time whether you're riding, camping, windsurfing or snorkelling) and the other is eyewateringly expensive. e.g.a 1952 vintage gold Rolex.

Anything inbetween is a bit of a waste of money. Or a lot of a waste of money, depending how much you spend on a footballer-style bit of bling.

I have 2 watches. You might guess what they are, and I like them both. One was a hand-me-down.

I bought this one two to three weeks ago from Tiktox during the sales. Think they still have some available.

Nothing expensive but a classic.

It is solar, atomic time, world time, countdown, stop watch and most importantly it's easy to read if you are slightly long sighted like me.

Price down from £108.00 £73.63 which is very reasonable and easily match the prices from the far east.

Good friendly reliable service from Tiktox.

😀

p/s: I changed the strap to a Combi strap similar to this one but the stainless steel version and not this titanium one.

Digital watches are for teenagers or those who would like to be in the special forces.

I looked at similar and just went back to a G-Shock in the end. There are so many you must be able to find one with a face you like.

Ya, but no more headache and it's accurate especially the one with Atomic time ...

Initially, I was going to buy a Seiko Monster II automatic (already got a 5 year old Seiko automatic btw) that is capable of hand wind but decided against it as I rather have less headache than having to constantly check it for accuracy ...

The Casio G-Shock 5610 has atomic time, world time and most importantly it's solar powered ... 🙂

Joe - that has to be one of the interweb's most sweeping generalisations.

I love digital watches for their range of features, technology and accuracy.

I am 44 and do not consider myself to be a decorated Navy Seal when I wear my ProTrek.
