Hopefully doing my first trip to the Alps (Les Arcs) next summer and wondering what fork to stick on my Orange 5. Have been advised 160 travel coil Lyrik, any others for consideration. Budget is an issue, I was hoping to get sorted for £250 (2nd hand obviously).

140mm Coil Pikes will be fine and very affordable s/h these days. Pretty bombproof.

or if the budget stretches, Fox 36's or lyrics I'd say. Can the 5 handle 160mm forks? Doubt you'll get 36's or lyrics for £250 though unless they are very second hand and therefore probably problematic out there, which is the last thing you'd want.

Float R 32, 140 travel

I'd get some 2nd hand 2006/7 marzocchi 66 rcx2's with 150mm of travel. Nice and plush and dead bobmproof so they wont fail on you when you're out there. Can probably get em for £150 2nd hand. I used them in the alps a couple of years ago and they were great.

160 seems a bit excessive on a 5 no ?

is it just xc you're doing or full on dh ?

if it's xc then whatever's on your 5 right now will be just fine.
