Following from my prevoius post can I have some Alfa 147 opinons and experiences, is the 1.6 any good? And is selespeed as bad as everyone says!

I once asked an RAC chap which car he was called out to most often - you guessed it - Alfa 147. They just are so unreliable.
You absolutely need to stay on top of maintenance, otherwise the bills get large. Find a good specialist and you will be fine. Steer clear of main dealers, they're every bit as bad as their reputation though.
Avoid the selespeed at all costs - not just an Alfa issue but any clutchless semi automatic (eg Renault, Citroen too) will go wrong expensively sooner or later.
147s share their electrics with most modern European cars (they're made by Bosch) so horror stories of Magnetti Marelli equipped 156s don't apply here.
Do your research well and you'll pick up a fine car.
