It has its own code...

We took off from there for a skydive.

Ah, must be different place I'm thinking of then.

Maybe Fox. We were given a heli-hike on the glacier as a honeymoon present.

Puerto Maldonado

Sounds crashy!

I've taken quite a few flights over the Amazon and thankfully never had a problem. have been stuck at Iquitos airport several times waiting for tropical storms to clear before boarding the plane though.

need to add Pucallpa to my list!

Bogota/Iquitos
Lima/Iquitos - and back loads of times
Lima/Pucallpa - Pucallpa/Iquitos and back a few times
Cuzco/Puerto Maldonado and back once

Putting LAS above Changi?

All based on experience isn't it. I know Changi is well thought of but the space and speed of McCarran has me. Fab car hire set-up too.

Although I did use some nice showers in Changi.

Westray + Papa Westray

is that particularly rigorously scheduled, or do they just wait until a few people have turned up to go and buy a tin of beans from 'the mainland'?

Scheduled, weather permitting but they're slack - it took 4 minutes last time I did it. No need to fly to Mainland for a tin of beans - they're delivered to the shop by the weekly ferry. Quinoa and sun-blushed tomatoes might need a longer trip though

EDIT but when a flight was cancelled due weather, the airport or operator (not sure which) phoned the B&B to let me know so I could catch the ferry instead.

I was mulling this over the other day as I had to send off for a new passport as I've run out of pages (no visa free travel in APAC).

I think this is nearly definitive...
1 London Heathrow
2 London Stanstead
3 London Gatwick
4 London Luton
5 London City
6 Glasgow
7 Edinburg
8 Leeds
9 Manchester
10 Bristol
11 RAF Brize Norton
12 Southampton
13 Dublin
14 Belfast
15 Madrid
16 Barcelona
19 Valencia
20 Brussels
21 Oslo
22 Paris CDG
23 Stockholm
24 Vienna
22 Munich
23 Frankfurt
24 Berlin
24 Hamburg
25 Rome
26 Milan
27 Copenhagen
28 Prague
29 Budapest
30 Rotterdam
31 Amsterdam
32 Athens
33 Zante
35 Moscow Domodedovo
36 Moscow Sheremetyevo
37 St Petersburg
38 Vilnius
39 Talinn
40 Oslo
41 Helsinki
42 Johannesburg
43 Nairobi
44 Dubai
45 Kuwait
46 Ryadh
47 Macao
48 Hong Kong
49 Shenzhen
50 Shanghai
51 Beijing
52 Tokyo
53 Okinawa
54 Pune
55 Mumbai
56 New Delhi
57 Bangalore
58 Perth
59 Sydney
52 Auckland
53 LA
54 Las Vegas
55 New York
56 La Guardia
57 Newark
58 Orlando
59 Tampa
60 Miami
61 Seattle-Tacoma
62 San Francisco
63 Boston
64 Chicago
65 Dominican Republic
66 San Paulo
67 Beunes Aires
68 Seoul
69 Jiju Island
70 Kuala Lumpar
71 Changi Singapore
72 Jakarta

Of all those the most memorable is Pune (India) as its a tiddly little airport that happens to share runways space with 3 Indian Airforce fighter squadrons. Night flights out were always fun if you are waiting at the end of the runway for a couple of Sukhois to take off on full afterburner (they always seemed to travel in pairs), the little 737 would get shaken rotten and you hear one hell of a roar.

For obscure ish Northholt and Duxford. We were waiting at Cambridge airport on a job and persuaded the pilot to take us to Duxford as it was more fun, landing there got us free entry to the museum and whilst in the museum we got a phone call meaning we could re-enact a scramble with a run (light jog) to the plane and getting a rapid take off.

I seem to remember the flight was okay apart from taking ages to taxi but I was more thinking about the semi unofficial bloke with a gun insisting I wrap all my luggage up. And then pay him.

If we're going for pictures of tiny airports - these are the ones I remember being especially small...

Vunisea, Kadavu - Fiji
[img] [/img]

Aitutaki - Cook Islands
[img] [/img]

I've also been to Bora Bora, but I think I got the boat.

I don't think I've seen Flint, Michigan mentioned yet. Americas gateway to hunting and crystal meth combined with a ticket problem causing the flight to be held and then the gate agent walking me on personally made for interesting inflight conversation with the locals. Sitting next to a Denny's area manager made me feel like I was in the real life Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Another is El Paso, Texas where this happened while I was there.

Hmm - not sure Ive got the time or memory to complete my list!!

Most obscure probably:

Baghdad
Basra
Al Amarah
Bagram
Herat
Masar e Sharif
Pasni
Diego Garcia
Andros Island
Cape Canaveral skid strip

Probably over 300 destinations, and I actually landed the aeroplane 😛

Is anybody actually reading other people's lists (sorry, somebody's probably already written that, but I'm not reading the whole thread)

Anyway:

Luton
Heathrow
Gatwick
Bristol
Birmingham
East Midlands
Stansted
Liverpool
Brize Norton
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Belfast
Paris CDG
Marrakesh
Perpignan
Rodez
Marseille
La Rochelle
Nimes
Lourdes
Geneva
Lyon
Oslo
Innsbruck
Zurich
Dubrovnik
Zadar
Split
Belgrade
Ljubljana
Ibiza
Fuerteventura
Paphos
Izmir
Antalya
Singapore
Bangkok
Brisbane
Melbourne
Auckland
Los Angeles
Denver
Salt Lake City
Philadelphia
Chicago
Jackson Hole
St Johns
Deer Lake

I'm sure I've missed a few there - but reckon I have one or two nobody else here has been to - my top bet for that would be Deer Lake.

Ooh, just remembered my obscure one in the UK

Cranfield

that was a take off and land at the same place flight (the one and only time I've had the controls of a 'plane in flight).

I'd have a much shorter list than many above, but a couple of obscurities which I don't think have been mentioned.
Aruba
Leh - would have expected to see that on someone's list
Campbell River, Vancouver Island - ok, airport is pushing it a bit perhaps

I've done Leh as well.
Best was the original Hong Kong.
Worst was a shit hole in the Middle East I don't want to mention.

Though it is interesting to see that you can tell people's professions by some of the more exotic airports they've visited.
