Need a pair of running headphones and possibly to use on the bike offroad. Plus could be used as hands free phone at work.
Really like the idea of being able to hear cars etc when running - but do these work and how are they with sweat, do they slip about?
Yes they work*, no they don't slip about.
* right, while these are bone conducting, and not actually stuffed into your ears, and you do hear ambient sounds around you, unless you have them turned right down; you still can't say, have a conversation with someone else, and I still find them distracting, but they are good for hearing cars behind you etc...Also if like me you're deaf in one ear; you can hear in stereo again! like magic...
I’ve had a set or Air for a few years and have just got some Aeropex.
I wouldn’t be without a set now. They’re perfect for the bike or running wheee you might encounter other cars/bikes/people.
I use them when on every ride - I think they're great. I listen to podcasts rather than music when on road sections but on the trails they're ace for music and you can still hear ambient sounds around you.
The quality of the sound coming through is suprisingly good.
They don't move at all and don't press against you in any noticeable or uncomfortable way.
Just seen that the air is only £30 more and lighter/ better so I'll probably go with those
Cheers guys
I've the newest ones..aeropex?
they work... you hear music, and can hear everything else.
however.. sound quality is awful. like.. terrible.
literally, a £10 wired in ear set sounds better than these £130 things....
but... you simply can't mimic air conduction quality via bone conduction... so they work well for what they do.
Good for cycling in traffic.
awful for listening to music.
DrP
I might be out of step here and I know loads of people love them but I found them to be way too quiet and felt I could hardly hear them when running in traffic etc. Obviously I was expecting to hear ambient noise (which is the point) but they just felt to me like I may as well have bought a cheap pair of earphones that leaked outside noise in and were not very loud.
I should say though, I live/work in Manchester and used them to run home from work so I was running down some pretty busy large roads in rush hour. Also, I spent a lifetime blasting techno music at stupidly high volume into my ears so I am probably somewhat deaf (not sure if that matters with bone conduction?!).
Anyway, in retrospect they clearly weren't for me so they went straight on ebay.
I got a pair for myself and some for the wife just before lockdown started. Great for cycling, listening to music is fine.... not sure why people don't like it. Easy to skip songs and pause etc. Wife uses them running and around the house etc.

Not just you, they are quiet. But, TBF to them, that is kinda the point
My wife has a pair and I occasionally borrow them
They’re great for running and ok for mtb but anything faster than 12mph ish drowns out the sound with wind noise ime, so no use on the road bike.
I would echo what's said, if you are used to noise cancelling headphones these will be a shack when you first use them. I have the Aeropex and think they are ace - use them for all sorts of riding and love the fact you can 'hear' stuff around you also
Picking up a pair from Argos tomorrow. They will mainly be used for running and SUP. I hate stuff in my ears and don't ever have music or podcasts up load and also hate the feeling of having normal sound blocked out so hope they will be just the ticket.
I have the Aeropex and really rate them. Can't stand in-ear headphones when I'm running, they just fill up with sweat.
Couple of caveats: they can still cause hearing loss at high volumes. Because roads are already quite loud (traffic, wind) you might find yourself running them at a high setting.
I've got some and... they're OK. As mentioned above the sound quality isn't great, I also find they move about slightly leading to the bass levels going up and down a bit. The main point is of course being able to hear ambient noise, but this obviously makes them useless anywhere noisy, so forget wearing them on the bus for example. Mine were a present, and I don't think I'd rush to replace them if/when they ever break.
