I saw the strangest light aircraft today flying over burrator in Devon. . At first glance it looked like it was flying backwards. It appeared to have a single prop engine at the rear and a very accentuated reverse v-wing at the front.

Any ideas?

Canard maybe? But I'm sure the wings were swept forward.

I'd put money on it being one of Burt Rutan's designs. He's designed a lot of airframes similar to this.

Yep, Rutan is a good shout.

One of these I think and I was wrong about the forward swept wings. Was a proper WTF double take moment.

Surely that news link deserves it's own thread!

Amazing stuff and to think it almost ended up in a skip!

Its a massive boost for the project as I believe it gets them out of all sorts of trouble w.r.t. certification / airworthiness / etc, with the CAA. Basically carte blanche to go ahead and build to the drawings.

That's a bit pub fact, so, pinch of salt.

That's amazing. The Mosquito is a legend of an aircraft.

Christ! What an incredible find, most instances of reconstructing old aircraft has to involve reverse engineering by measuring parts from existing airframes, but to have every drawing for every marque is unbelievable.
The beauty of the Mossie is that many were built by furniture manufacturers, so the skills and facilities needed are much easier to acquire. Imagine setting up woodworking courses for students and apprentices building Mosquito airframes...

With any luck, they'll do a production run. Or perhaps they could sell a kit, like Caterham or Westfield do!

Some bits of a mosquito air frame on display at the V & A at the moment, see https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/inside-the-plywood-material-of-the-modern-world-exhibition
