I'm looking at buying a bed in the sales. The likes of Dreams are offering big sales. Anyone got experiences of places good/bad and have some general real life advice before the sales men grab me? Budget will be £500 max for a double.

£500 doesn't sound much for something you spend at least a third of your time in.

Spend it all on a top quality mattress, the frame is not important.

I guess that depends on what you can afford.

When we bought a bed we found Dreams to be way way overpriced. I doubt the sale prices are any cheaper than normal.

We did think their beds were that comfy either. We ended up buying from a company called John Peters

The best mattress you can afford will be money well spent. We got one with a memory foam layer which was extremely comfortable, but tended to result in feeling like you had just emerged from a 6-month coma cos I tended not to roll over on it much. And it got quite hot.

The best bed I ever had was a futon. Nice and firm, although it was quite low. Low enough for my mum's miniature dachshund to deposit a nice big turd on it one evening.
