We will be in touch
So the internet went off yesterday evening and the same today so I phoned BT, whilst the internet is now working the chap said to change my ADSL filter and it'll work better. Why is this?
On another note BT staff in India work 10 hours with 3 breaks totalling 1 hour, and he was having rice for dinner/lunch!
Potentially you have a crap ADSL filter that doesn't filter properly and makes your connection drop.
More likely he was reading from a script and that was #1 on the "suggest something that costs us no money but makes the customer think you give a shit" list.
I take it you have filters on ALL your sockets that have phones plugged in?
At one point in the last five years the run rate on faulty filters was about 20%. Chinese suppliers. I spent many a happy day changing them out. grrrrr
yeah I think we have filters on all sockets, anyway he's sending more out for free!
Find the main socket that the line comes in on. Remove bottom half and plug in your router cable to the now exposed test socket. If that continues to misbehave then line is the problem - if it behaves it's probably your filters/anything else in your house.
You can buy a replacement front plate which allows you to use the test socket. Useful if you have a house alarm that uses the line for alerting - as it will stop that interfering with the line.
