We're 2 women, planning to ride Coasts and Castles, Edinburgh to Newcastle, in April.

Can anyone recommend a B&B in Edinburgh for the night before we start? Preferably fairly central so we can walk to food etc. Not grotty hostel, we're too old for that. And not too pricy. Heatherlea looked good but web site and phone number don't seem to work....

We're doing 3 days, probably staying 1st night at Kelso, 2nd at Alnmouth. Any accommodation or baggage transfer suggestions would also be very welcome!

Thanks

Thanks - good idea. We've decided, after much head scratching, to reverse and do the conventional south-north route so we don't have to read the guide book backwards and upside down.

Still would like baggage transfer...

If you're going to stay in B&Bs, you don't need baggage transfers. Just travel very light and wash your biking gear every night if you have to.

Have rung around a bit and given up on baggage! TBH I'm happy to travel light and use panniers and have done it before, but friend was spoilt by luxury of transfer on C2C route - proper shoes, choice of clothing, clean every day, books, maps etc. Will have to be more disciplined this time round.

The actual riding looks very easy (famous last words) so it should be fun. First night booked (Dunstan), and will use Travelodge in Edinburgh.

For baggage - post clean clothes to the places you are staying and post the dirty ones home.

Whatever you do, don't use the Edinburgh Central one on St Mary's Street, it's incredibly noisy.

The new Waterloo Place one is in a good location that quietens down at night. I spent 6 months this year in the Apex hotel next door.
