busy as hell with people getting into London by different means, or standard August traffic?

Looking at early commute, into London at 7:30/8am

Ta!

I'd suggest it'll just be normal busy for this time of year. My trains into Waterloo have been surprisingly empty so I think a lot of people are just working from home or are on holiday.

Train rush hour into Waterloo is pretty early as people move on from there so 8 o'clock arrival would be near peak people on my line. However, not driven in in years so no idea no traffic.

Sorry, not much help I know

Again I'd guess standard august traffic, not sure the rail issues has moved people into cars, tube seems much busier as a result

Drive to Morden and pick up the tube? I avoid driving into town if at all possible nowadays even on the motorcycle its grief.

I'd also say based on commuting up the a24 seven thirty- eight isn't an early start for traffic going into town, pretty grim by then

Are you thinking about driving or riding?

either way the A3 is a hellish place. If you are riding then join us on the A24/Cycle Superhighway 7 instead, much nicer (except for the Tooting Tunnel of Death of course but that's evenings only)

Tooting Bec south bound onwards in the evening is like some bizarre game of frogger, worst drivers and pedestrians in south London!

Motorbiking, so a little bit immune from the hell, but it's still a lot more pleasant when it's quieter. I'll give it crack and see what happens.

Even in the holidays if you're going to be coming into London on the A3 I'd think that you'd want to be heading in past Wimbledon about 6:30/7am latest. 7:30/8 will be very heavy traffic.
When I was heading out on the M4 to get to Bath for 8am, it'd be pretty solid on the elevated section coming in at 6/6:30am and a massive queue for the M25 junction about 10 minutes later.

yup, my experience entirely and hence my comment above.

it was best described to me once as a first person 'shoot 'em up' as I think they call it in gaming circles i.e. you are heading down the street and everything is jumping out left, right and centre; front and behind and trying to kill you and you are scanning around the entire 360 trying to defend yourself!

Pff. As you were. I've got a colleague's leaving drinks after work, so train it is.

Thanks anyway. I'll be trying next week.

It was fine. I left a bit later than usual, but the journey took the same time as if I'd gone in 40 minutes earlier. Holidays more of a factor than train works, it seems.

A3 sucks at best of times. You'd be paying congestion charge I take it too?

Train to Waterloo even when no works depends on no signalling fault or "incident" that day. Also whether you're on fast or slow train. Fast trains are fast, but where I live it's guaranteed no seat and sandwiched in, sometimes even having to wait for the next during peak hours.

Other option - drive to nearest tube point and get the tube in?

A3 is fine if you're on a motorbike and early enough. No congestion charge either.

Service to Waterloo is generally good. I'm a bit further out. 4 fast trains an hour, I always get a seat, and I can get a full size bike on and ride either end. I try and get the white trains which are comfier. signalling probs are a ballache, but it's a way more reliable line than the Great Eastern Line I had to use coming in from Colchester.

Door to desk is 1hr 20 average on motorbike and train. Motorbike less now due to holidays, train considerably more because I'm not taking the bike during the works. Can't sleep on the motorbike though!

Hate having to commute by tube. Uncomfortable, hot, bad air, packed in with thousands of others suffering in grim silence. ๐Ÿ˜
