I got Sky+ last month as we have no freeview. Although the gf moaned when I got it, now she loves it as she can watch the first episode of strictly come dancing from the box whilst it records the second episode, whereas before she'd have had to wait for the second episode to finish taping before watching the first 🙂

Anyway, she's been gassing on the phone for nearly 40 minutes now. She used live pause on Eastenders. If I hit record, will all of the live pause (40 minutes worth) get retained on the hard drive so I can watch something else whilst she finishes gassing, or will it just start recording from this moment in time and loose the 40 minutes of paused stuff?

Yes as long as is it is still set for 60 mins of live pause
You can change the amount of live pause time in the menu somewhere, it will record the rest of the programme as well.

Oh dear...Holby City which followed eastenders has just terminated part way through so something went wrong 🙂 Instant rewind is st to 30 minutes so maybe that is something to do with it. I can watch something decent now.

I think it records the programme, not a fixed time so will have only have got a few mins of Holby if you didn't set it to record as well.

I couldn't give a flying **** about Eastenders or Holby 🙂 They happen to be what my gf was watching...its more about how the box works than what was on this evening so I don't cock up when there is something on that I want to keep 🙂

If you want to save what you have on pause for later, Im sure you have to press record before you turn over. It will say "Saved programs are being recorded" or something similar.
