Mrs Zip's mum is coming today.

So full on ,all the works roast dinner.

For pudding she is making a trifle. When I checked that it was red jelly and not bloody awful green muck  like my mum does , I was informed that it doesn't have jelly.

I'm a broken man, I need a big STW hug.

Your wife is clearly making an ironic post-jelly trifle.

Surely everyone knows that it’s a red jelly and an orange jelly mixed together for a trifle?

I’ll bet she’s used sliced sponge cake rather than ladyfingers as well.

No jelly in the bunny hop household.

Your wife is correct.

Cake base (fat free), fruit, custard, cream, almonds or/and chocolate shavings.

I think you’re being a trifle harsh to be honest.

Of course it's got to have jelly in it ..and red at that !

Best advice ..sneak out to your local CO-OP and buy one of these ..Im sure you could do the lot in a one-er ...its as good as home made ..and only two quid !

The real test - does she think a Victoria Sponge should have cream in it?

If you go to the curry house in Sovereign Harbour ,Eastbourne they do an all you can eat Sunday buffet.

They also have an all you can eat trifle trolley . Heaven.

Ps the trifle was ok. Not sure about having banana in it though. Toasted almonds on the top cheered it right up.

Perfect trifle.

Home-made sponge (Made by Mrs JAMJ1974) as the base.

Spoon over good quality strawberry jam mixed 50/50 with halved or quartered fresh strawberries.l - enough to cover.

Over this add home-made fresh vanilla custard with a little cornflour added to the eggs and sugar, so it will achieve a firmer set.  You will need a good thick layer of this.

Top with whipped cream.

Industrial Madeira Cake soaked in my homemade 5yr old Lemoncello.

Raspberry coulis and whole raspberries.

Muscarpone mixed with industrial vanilla custard and lemon zest.

More raspberries chocolate shavings maybe hundreds and thousands.

No Jelly.

Mmmmmm, works for me! Jelly is an absolute no-no, it used to make me violently sick as a child, I can’t face the thought of eating it now, sixty years on. That goes for any jelly, or jelly-like substance.

Mariner’s recipe looks good, too...

I’m going to be taking notes from this thread... 😋

add home-made fresh vanilla custard

Bollocks.  Ambrosia beats any homemade custard by a million miles.

Nonsense, it might beat "homemade" Bird's custard, but not real cream, milk, eggs custard. Honestly, some of you lot shouldn't be allowed pudding.
