My sister's a DI and she says that actually they do tend to free up 'proper' police officers for more important things and it does make the grannies happy to see police on the streets.

Everyone entitled to their own opinion. Easy girl is right there are some brilliant PCSO's out there worth their weight in cold that take a lot of minor work away from coppers and deals with it! However as already said there are a lot of plums!!
