MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
The drunken chat about 'doing something' this year is about to become a reality and tomorrow morning I board a train from London to Penzance. Then it's just the small matter of getting to John O'Groats by the 4th of May.
At this point we have accomodation sorted for the frist 3 nights and our trains booked (although we've not been able to reserve bike spaces so could be interesting).
We have no real routes planned just vague stops that we hope to make, we know our ultimate destination, so just plan on enjoying the journey.
I'll try and post updates for anyone that's interested, for everyone else you'll be saved my nonsense for a couple fo weeks at least.
Sammie-Louise x
good luck, if you are coming through North worcs, give us a shout and i'll put the kettle on, email in profile

good luck dude, i'll text you during our rides this weekend whilst your slogging it out on tarmac in sunny bank holiday weekend traffic...
"hey sexyboobs, becca, mat, jo and me are having a picnic in the woods, just cracked out 20 beautiful miles of twisty swoopy singletrack and its gorgeous... chilling in the sun right now. hope you're enjoying the exhaust fumes :D"
that kinda thing 😈
Shame the route is nowhere near me, as you would have been welcome to a protein shake and some inappropriate sexual advances.
The Southern Yeti who?

If you get a bit lost or fancy a detour, I'm sure you could stay here a night or two. (Might live to regret that one).
nope, no where near, offer stands though if you detour
Gies a shout when you pass thru edinburgh. I'll put t'kettle on
[pedant]you will never find oakhampton. Its Okehampton.[/pedant]
Jamie I just checked and Ross-on-Wye is only 140miles from Cambridge. I'll look forward to seeing you in lycra 🙂
(toys I realised that, but the first route I put up had me staying in Gt Torrington still, that'd made me really lost)
UGH! i suppose as everyone else is i better bow to peer pressure and say:
if you fancy a detour then you're welcome to stay over at mine. but this time no forcing our bikes to have sex and stealing my tupperware!
See you in just over a week *can't wait* 😀
I'm not far from Market Drayton - happy to distribute Tequila and scotch eggs from the side of the road.
Good luck, your not coming my way but offer stands of kettle and sticky buns
See you in just over a week *can't wait*
I imagine the release of that particular sexual tension will register on the Richter Scale 8)
Jamie you come to meet me and there'll be a Tsunami 😯
iDave - got any tips for using this ride to drop a couple of % bodyfat?
Will Tequilla and scotch eggs of it?
Actually... I want to get by on local delicacies. Cornwall and Devon it's going to be pasties and scones, Easter Sunday I guess I'll eat chocolate.. what about other regions?
iDave - got any tips for using this ride to drop a couple of % bodyfat?
It'll cost you.
....more than you will ever know.
Muhahahahahahahahahahahah......*breathes*....hahahahahahahahaha.
I'm willing to give my pound of flesh!
Hope your not planning on riding on the A30 from Cornwall, a BAD road, take the coastal route, hilly but scenic and definitely safer.
Jamie, my coffee almost ended up on my keyboard when i read that.
Scotland = deep fat fried mars bars. Not that helpful for dropping bodyfat i'm afraid.
My native Staffordshire has delicious oatcakes, then come to my new home in chesire and see them spoiled with pumpkin seeds and fruit chutney. Sacralidge.
Oh, there better be pictures of this, unlike that fake Swinley ride that never happend.
You may well pass us on the way to Invergarry. If you fancy a stop/cuppa/drying room use give me a shout.
TS
i am in the Preston area if you need accomodation
Dude, you're SO doing it the wrong way. You'll be going uphill all the way - look on a map!
Good luck old son! Pop in on route and I'll service your bike whilst you sit in the hot-tub.
Here in Kent.
ourkidsam +1
why not get the train to skottlandshire and then freewheel back down to the sunny south?
he's doing it the right way - tail wind and a few days training before the big hills.
I'm in Market Drayton if you need anything 🙂
Thanks for the offers guys... you may live to regret them 🙂
Phil, I'm coming past yours on the way to that there London this evening, no need to feel left out!
ohhh what time you coming by and will you be wanting to stop in for a quick ten-rock of crack?
instant hit - we're thinking of riding through Cornwall on the southern side of the A30?
Phil - I've still got to pack the left pannier, or is it the right, so I might just have to fly on by. Smoke a rock for me though 🙂
A third here who at least works just outside Market Drayton. Pity out tearooms not officially open on tuesday i think, but let us know where you are passing through 😀
Does anyone live in Thurso, that can help me out with a bike sized box?
Apparently for the train journey back we've got to pack one of the bikes as they don't have spaces on the train for all of them.
Don't know the southern side so well, im in Devon and often ride down to the outlaws but alawys go along the coast. When i did JOGLE couple of years ago we went along the coast again, i reckon the hills in Devon and Cornwall definitley harder than anything in Scotalnd, ie very steep and short. (prepares flak jacket).
Have to say doing end to end was the best ride i have ever done, everybody should do it!! Ride, eat, sleep.
Enjoy it.
off to the kids play park and lunchtime to sell some H, anything left over i'll mainline in your honour 8)
🙄
You're not doing this with my brother are you?
Who's your brother?
How close to Bristol will you be going TSY?
It's Okehampton not Oakhampton and Bridgwater not Bridgewater (but the place is a dump and I wouldn't stay there), I don't hold much hope for you when you can't even spell the places you're going to 😆
I was practicing typing with webbed fingers. Staying at a friends near Bridgwater.
Guessing very close Darcy... got to get over the river at some point. You coming out to play?
Oh, good luck my lovely, I'll miss you * kisses*
Remember regular updates.
Yeti - I can post a couple of bike bags up to your final point if you wish. Just let me know.
And avoid the A49.
instanthit +1 the coast road past Newquay still gives me nightmares
27/04/2011 Preston.
I'm off next week so if you need a helping hand repair / accom / food wise give us a shout, mail in profile. Good luck.
tod
Again thank you people, I love this place.
Bullheart, we've not got accomodation sorted for up there yet. If they're isn't an LBS I can track down to ponce a box off I'll be in touch.
TOD - more than welcome to join us for a pootle if you're bored?
emsz - I thought you were coming across to meet us, it'll almost be May by then.... 😉
Will you be posting daily updates?
At least you're going the right way with the wind behind you, even if it is all uphill to Scotland 😉
Good luck, imagine how fast and fit you'll be by the JOG!
imagine how f[s]ast[/s]ecked your knees and [s]fit[/s] back [s]you'[/s]will be by the JOG
Going to try but I've only got an old school phone style mobile 🙁
Thanks, but I've no road bike at the moment, and I'm off to Ae on Friday so I'll be having a chilled week, but if you need help wit owt just give us an email.
Crikey someone could've mentioned that the hills are relentless in Cornwall and Devon, and that panniers are heavy.
On the plus side the extra weight makes breaking speed limits on descents a hell of a lot easier 🙂
Where are you this evening then?
About 35 miles south of you I think Darcy. Done 200 miles so far.
In Bridg(e)water?
FCOL Yeti get a move on, shouldn't you be in Wales?? 😉
How are you?
I was thinking you're running behind 😀
Oh, has his bike broken then?
Yeah, just North of there at a mates.
Not too bad C_G I'd advise a proper bike fitting though, and some rest before hand. One of my knees is buggered but has seemed better since I lowered my saddle this morning.
Hereford is my next stop now.
he's doing it the right way - tail wind
On average. If only it wasn't actually a N to NE wind forecast!
Good luck but do listen to your body!
Yeah, wind has been going the opposite way to us he whole time... character building innit!
I hope you didn't breathe through your nose when you went through Bridgwater...
keep going offer still available [s]if[/s] when you reach the proper north
Proper north? If he makes it this far I'll offer a place to stay !
I will steal his helmet to prevent an argument 😉
And I was going to offer to polish his helmet for him
Ha, if I make it to Edinburgh I'm going to need someone to play nurse for me. Whilst I appreciate your professional credentials Jeremy I'm looking to recruit a female for this role.
Junky, you sure you don't mind three lads turning up on your doorstep... some clothes washing facilities could be a real bonus... at least I can't leave my other pair of lycra shorts behind I suppose.
Going to need a bike shop soon anyway. I've packed for the south... not the north. All my jerseys are SS, and now I hear you're not even in double figure temps up in Scotland.... what's that all about?
just to be certain this is on road or off road ?
respect either way but I'm hoping its off road
On road I'm afraid, but I'll do it off road next year if that makes people happy 🙂
Lovely weather here in the Burg today. Bring your sun cream. Got a route in mind for the Carlisle-Edinburgh bit yet?
good work yeti. let me know if you'll need tequila in market drayton.
*sulks*
I am an expert in repairing sore butts. Even hairy ones
I'm fully equipped for sun druidh... ideally in 20+ degs. Thinking of coming through Inners? Route planning is pretty haphazard if I'm honest, and changes with almost every mile.
Nice one iDave, is tequila a local speciality of Mkt Drayton? When in Rome and all that...
yes I can accommodate you all and have a washing machine. If any of you are 10 stone whippets I can lend cycling clothes merlin is near by and you can cycle past on your route
You might actually be a legend Junky, nice one. I'll drop you a line... the amount of food we've been putting away there's no chance of any of us hitting 10 stone though 😀
Think the sentence that best sums up the trip so far...
That assos arse stuff is ****ing magic
Any chance of an update?
Well he has not contacted me but if he does I am sure he will be on STW at some point today
I hope he went over the bridge.
I hope he went [s]over[/s]off the bridge.
🙂
Not really Yeti. Where are you? How's your dodgy knee? How's your arse? Does Junkyard need to lube up this evening?
