Because they want you to read some information before starting to use the service and check that your phone and provider are compatible with the service

I’m now registered

If you have an iPhone 14 or later work through the demo of getting help via satellite link if you have no signal

The service was originally designed to help deaf people access help.  it can help the small number of people who might be in remote areas with poor voice coverage.  What it can’t cope with is people who don’t actually need an ambulance (or other services) simply texting in their demands - and you know the entitled would do that.A human voice call is quite a good filter.

I suppose it also gives a useful filter against DDOS style attacks or potentially terrorists spamming it with fake incidents in the aftermath of a real one?
