7stanes Mountain Biking Community Interest Company Ltd

This post is a fixed term contract for 21 months

The 7stanes is a term used to describe a series of mountain bike centres owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland across Dumfries & Galloway and Scottish Borders. The stanes attract around 400,000 visits per annum. (www.7stanes.gov.uk)

A new Community Interest Company has been established to develop a sustainable funding/ investment strategy for the continued promotion and development of the 7stanes brand in order to maximise the economic activity generated by the 7stanes. The Company Board representatives are Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Borders Council, VisitScotland, Scottish Cycling and six private sector representatives.

The Company’s role is primarily to raise the profile of the mountain bike centres through various marketing initiatives and communication channels and identify and secure new sources of funding.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced & dynamic development executive to provide administrative and project support and to undertake day to day management of our web site and online marketing activities. Based in Dumfries, this position will be fundamental in driving forward the marketing and brand management of the 7stanes.

Experience of administration, web site management and project management are essential.

THIS PROJECT IS BEING PART-FINANCED BY THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT AND THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY SCOTTISH BORDERS AND DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY LEADER 2007-2013 PROGRAMMES

To be fair it's a post that certainly needs filling with someone good!! Because outside of the biking community it's not even known about and should be!!!

Obviously they don't want someone 'good' or they'd offer a 'good' salary

I thought the original brief of the Stanes was for biking, walking and horses...

Funny wording - they want a "development executive" to provide "admin support" - which is it ? I don't understand this at all I thought Executive meant senior management not secretary but learn something new everyday I guess !

I've read the ad a couple of times now and I still don't know what or who they actually want.

The salary is not exactly attractive and yet they specify "experienced & dynamic development executive.........Experience of administration, web site management and project management are essential." for the derisory sum of £20k !!!!

I guess they either don't know what they want themselves or are hoping that someone will take it as a stepping stone/intro into mtb or outdoor marketing.

True "website management" what do they mean systems admin or updating pages in a CMS for that money hopefully the latter.

Sounds like writing press releases and putting them on the website with making coffee and stuffing envelopes thrown in...

Sorry, Executive Sustenance Management I mean.

Well now here's a canny idea for you low-wage whingers - why doesn't the Government sell off the FC and then once it's privatised and raping the good public of their hard-earned (low-wage) cash to use their woodlands, they'll start paying their staff decent salaries!?

Privatise the FCS! Privatise the FCS! Long live FCS!

etc etc...

Fear not - they've just got the visitor numbers and the salary figure the wrong way round.

😉
