has the gidcoe thing been confirmed or is he just talking about protecting his fine lambswool garments in the wardrobe?
I do wish they’d get shot of Claire Ronacres on the news. She’s awful
How can you be offended by a news caster? They're on for about 3 minutes, read a script and gone.
I’m Claiiiiiiiiiire Ronacres.
I reckon she's toned that down in the last few months, I found it quite amusing.
I’ll tell you who definitely hasn’t toned it down… The Hobnob. I find her breathy, over-descriptive nonsense like nails down a blackboard, so have to turn it off when she appears.
I thought I’d try it again and see if she reigned it in a bit with her ‘taking you on a magical audio adventure’ cobblers, but she’s actually getting worse. I lasted about ten minutes before it went off again
The Hobnob. I find her breathy, over-descriptive nonsense
Likewise. Turn it off immediately.
Some music "breath" to relax too, "breath".
I DON'T WANT TO RELAX!!!!
Oh no, much better to continue your morning in a state of heightened anxiety. 😀
I've not gone back still, NTS, Rinse FM, Worldwide, Soho Radio plus mixes in SoundCloud do me.
I'm 44 so should probably not be anywhere near Rinse FM but Uncle Dugs Run Come Follow Fridays are now essential to get me through the fag end of the week, they guy has an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre from about 1989, I'm not even a huge D&B fan but live a '92-'93 special!
Reading back through this thread from the start confirms how far it's gone for me; I clearly cared about the changes, and felt they were hugely detrimental to the quality output that we'd been used to. It's just gone, for the most part. There are, of course, still outposts of quality - or familiarity - but overall, it's just a facsimile of the station that went on first thing and was often on until after Gid.
Ah well, I'm sure someone's enjoying it. I hope, they are. It's not important, but it is important; like Arrigo Sacchi almost said, 'music is one of the most important of the least important things in life'.
I liken listening to Radio6 to panning for gold, you need to swirl through a lot of crap to discover the occaisonal nugget.
But it is the hope of a find that keeps me hanging in there.
Except for MAH, I switch to 4extra at that point - everyone has their limit!
It's futile to care about listening to good music?
Is confused.
Someone saying they were working fixing bikes just rang In to MAH saying, 'Kate Bush just reduced me to floods of uncontrollable, happy tears '... MAH gushed.
Anyone on here? Can you please provide your name and address so that we can arrange to have you eliminated?
Ok, thanks.
I'm only just getting over the reams of people who texted in yesterday after John Grants session in 'floods of tears' etc.
Eye rolling emoji
I've almost completely given up on 6 music now - utter tosh at times.
And it was a while ago but thanks to whoever suggested Radio France Fip Rock - non-stop music, no ads and no inane DJ twaddle. Bliss!
I’ve almost completely given up on 6 music now – utter tosh at times.
Very much beats utter tosh ALL the time. My last job had Absolute Radio on and believe me, being bombarded with Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Keane and awful repetitive advertising all day is incredibly wearing.
No station will be perfect for anyone all of the time. How boring would that be! Might as well just stream all day.
I love that Six exists. Long may it continue. It's easy to turn off the dj's you're not keen on, or just come on here and rant about them instead 🙂
Six music isn't too bad really. Lauren is good (and wishing her a speedy recovery) and i don't mind Nick at all. For me, by far the best and is Mark and Stuart at the weekend..... Huey plays some great stuff too.
I rarely listen past 10am as it when it goes all street or current it is absolutely dire!
I do enjoy the radio selection on Spotify too which is what i have on inbetween 6 Music and 5 Live.
Gilles on Saturday afternoon is the highlight for me, he played an amazing Taiwanese Krautrock/psych track the other week that would have been worthy of Coldcut Solid Steel's heyday.
Huey does play some good stuff, but like Iggy he lays it on a bit thick with his chat.
Heard a couple of good female DJs later in the evenings too, sorry can't remember their names.
Gilles is great. I'm really liking Jamz show beforehand as well - lots of music from all over the place that isn't played anywhere else on mainstream radio.
Much like radio 1 of yore, it's the non-daytime shows that aren't playlisted which are going to be most interesting.
Sunday afternoons work for me - if I'm not riding the easy mood of Guy Garvey seems perfect for fettling. It's pretty retro - lots of stuff from the 80's quite often, which sort of feels like a guilty pleasure at times. I could listen to Iggy rattle on all day as well. Listen to those on catch up if not live most weeks. Some of the stand ins on those shows are good to- Ezra Furmans' shows were a good listen. The guy who was taking over recently needs to 'know what I mean' a lot less.
Grimmy i've warmed to in the mornings. I think he's relaxed a bit. Seems to know his music.
I've said before how Giles Peterson has reaching for the off switch every time.
Broad church the 6 music listeners.
Heard a couple of good female DJs later in the evenings too, sorry can’t remember their names
Zakia? Previously did the breakfast show on NTS.
Don’t forget it’s The Cure night tonight!
Hobnobs is proper doing my head in this morning!
She's just played a full half hour of basically blips and wooshes and then said that something was released in 'February time'.
So, in February then...
🙂
Current 6music bugbear - that track that goes "Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole...etc"
What about, 'I'm searching for pizza'? 🙂
released in ‘February time
Bet she said "dropped" not released...
Not fussed by Iggy, so Nighy is a pleasant change
Seeing this thread reminds me how I used to love the 6music Indie forever playlist because it was a playlist, now its narrated by some goon and I've not listened since, absolute shame.
Current 6music bugbear – that track that goes “Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole, Black hole…etc”
been trying for ages to work out which song this reminds me of. finally came to me this morning...... rattlesnake by king gizzard and the wizard lizard.
Yeah, I have to say I never thought I could ever like Grimmy, but actually, he’s way less annoying than I thought he’d be
think a lot of us had that pre-conception of an annoying radio 1 dj and were dreading him, but hes actually fitting in really well i think. he's adapted his style to suit la-la's audience, so fair play to him.
Oh god I hate Bill Nighy being on 6 - he's a boring old fart and his music choices are mediocre. Fair play Iggy Pop needs a holiday at his age, but still. "Oh look, I'm old and I like middle of the road music. Here's David Bowie again. l really like him, have done for ages."
Would far rather have an artist in residence show instead.
Just as bad as MAH and her whole endless "oh isn't music just the best?" shtick - we know its the best, that's why we're here!
Guy Garvey's an old fart who makes boring mediocre music, but his radio show's nearly always brilliant - the afternoon goes right downhill afterwards now, thanks to Nighy.
My wish would be to swap Craig Charles and Don Letts around - I like both shows, but would rather have Don Letts after Gilles. Maybe too similar in content sometimes.
Last time I had the misfortune to listen to Bill Nighy, he seemed to be playing mainly what premiership Footballers probably listen to.
Not a fan.
Yeah i hate Nighy's show too. Seems like a nice chap but he should be on radio 2!
If you want a weekly dose of donkey jacket rock give this man a listen.
A music enthusiast playing (mostly ) 70s guitar music that much of you won’t have heard before.

This gets an airing as well. Never heard it anywhere else but on Radio Caroline.
Demis Roussos at his best.

I'm really enjoying the 80s music today.
Much better than the usual Friday dance music stuff
As noted above....broad church and all that. Literally my idea of hell!
This gets an airing as well. Never heard it anywhere else but on Radio Caroline.<ol', 'Noto Color Emoji'; background-color: #eeeeee;" />Demis Roussos at his best
completely ripped off by the Verve on 'the rolling people'. the band admit to it 🙂
I’m really enjoying the 80s music today
Me too!
They played Bad Brains, Fugazi and Black Flag!
A dream line up for me.
My only criticism is that they don't seem to realise that Fugazi actually have other songs besides Waiting Room, although obviously that is the best song ever made. 🙂
Vengalis!!!
Kinda miss Zakia moving to 6, her Sundays morning shows were perfect
well how about that.... just announced...
Lauren L sounding great and back... to replace MAH 10-1 slot
and Grimmo to stay in breakfast slot
MAH is taking 'a break' and returning late Spring somewhere on 6. Her announcement speech compared herself to David Bowie so probably won't endear herself to her detractors :))))
YES! (Edit - 50 seconds late)
Hobknobs is going from the mid morning slot!
Lauren is back but in MAH slot and Nick Grimshaw is staying in the morning slot.
I'm really happy about this. I love that MAH plays loads of pretentious guff and I love that there is a radio station that welcomes it, but I just don't think that mid morning is the time for it.
Hopefully when she comes back it'll be an evening slot 🙂
Her announcement speech compared herself to David Bowie so probably won’t endear herself to her detractors
Yeah, well more like she suggested he was a contemporary but yes, so MAH of her. Lolz.
I actually like MAH, just not her breathless new age talk. I mean she plays Sonic Youth a lot
I agree. I mean, she plays some wonderful music (Sonic Youth very much up there) but I find that mid-morning, on a building site, I get a bit self-conscious of my radio choice when we have an hour long session of whale noises 😉
No more Nils Frahm in the morning then. But overall I'm pleased, and it might stop me listening to quite as much James O'Brien which is probably a good idea.
