Got a 4 he old Volvo D2 on Volvo finance. Needs a 4yr service which main dealer have quoted £380.00. The car is not under warranty but has a full dealer history. I'm also have a well regarded/recommended local Volvo independant garage.

Is a D2 the 1.6 Ford/PSA unit? If so, £380 seems steep.
Not sure Matt. The D2 is a 2ltr. Not sure if it's a ford/ Volvo engine.
I'd go for the independent seeing as they're well regarded. Unless the dealer is also well rated and the price isn't massively different.
Our local Volvo dealer is Arnold Clark so I go 80 miles in the other direction to the nearest independent. A friend who works for Arnold Clark told me, "I'd advise you to go ANYWHERE else. Our workshop is ****ing diabolical."
Having had a warranty issue on our Volvo by Arnold Shark, I too would go anywhere else but there.
They couldn't even get the coolant level right. Twice.
If you’ve had the car serviced at the dealer for those 4 years then stick with them for another year, possible good will contribution if anything goes wrong in the next 2 years. If not go indie.
