Hi

I have a walk through of our new build that has been modeled in unity

I am after a PC for our display stand in reception so visitors can use it,

I am told it is 4K and need a 4K PC, i have had a google and can find 4K PC's from £1,500 > £14,000

Basically im hoping there is something significantly cheaper out there.

any advice greatly appreciated

First up, do  you have a 4k screen?

Next what are they going to be doing on it?

Until you answer those all bets/quotes are off

I very much doubt the average punter will care if hat they're watching is in 4k or not, unless you're putting it on an absolutely massive (100"+) screen. Put something on full-HD and spend half as much money

The only thing that makes a PC a 4k PC is the screen (well OK the GPU as well needs to support the resolution but most modern ones will, they just won't all do it with a usable performance), so as Mike says do you have that already (or are you going to use a 4k TV)?

I'm not familiar with Unity but are the output files just locked perspective or is the user free to move about through the model? I would imagine the latter probably puts a lot more load on the GPU. Whether the model is loaded entirely/mostly in memory or from the disk would also dictate how much RAM you need and whether an SSD is worth it. Finally the frames per second you want will have an impact, I assume you're after 60fps is using a 4K TV or standard 4K monitor? 144Hz 4k monitors get pricey but it's probably overkill for what you want anyway.

You'd probably be better of borrowing one or seeing if a local computer shop hires them if you only need it for an event

oh and my usual answer would be get the people who developed the walk round to do a virtual tour export it to Blu Ray or file and play that.

It depends how well your building has been modeled. I'd be shocked if it was hammering modern PCs to the point of needing a totally top end discrete graphics card.

Also I have a 4k screen, it's great but bare in mind you will need to scale it to 125% or so.

Hi all, answers to your questions ...

I have a 55" 4K touchscreen already installed

https://iiyama.com/gb_en/products/prolite-tf5538uhsc-b1ag/

It will be used mainly for the user to navigate through a 4K 3D model

It will also have some 4K images and video

Also I have a 4k screen, it’s great but bare in mind you will need to scale it to 125% or so.

what does this mean ?

I have spoke to the company who have done the model and they have also advised to get a small SSD and min 16GB RAM

At this point rather than ask on here I'd be going back to them for either a spec or to purchase the box for you (or even loan it to you) then it's not your problem or your fault if it's not up to scratch. If they can't tell you then....

Most any modern PC can display 4k (check graphics spec though).

If its just for display purposes, then you don't need a PC capable of gaming at 4k, which requires a very powerfull CPU and graphics card, which i suspect is what these £1500 + ones are, you be able to get away with something very middle of the road.

4k photos and video will only need a display driver/card capable of displaying 4k.  quite a few cheap graphics card will display 4k.  DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0 is required for 60hz.

nvidia has a list  https://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/technology/4k/supported-gpus

walk though models may require a decent card or processor depending on what is driving the software.  The software should have recommended specs.

Ask them for recommended (not minimum) graphics card spec and processor spec too. buy that.

(I'm assuming this is an actually interactive demo so you will need the oomph, if not, go back to mikes 2nd post, as just to play a walk through your won't need that powerful a machine(If you are running the 3d program and allowing people to navigate through you will, the company should supply you with complete specs, SSD 16GB isn't enough.) )
