[Closed] 3 Day Weekends - for half a year! Work holiday hax..... anyone?

What do you do if you want to go on a proper holiday?

Tom I don't bother much nowadays! But if I get the urge i'll just have 25 days left to spread out over consecutive Fridays 😯

I do this by working compressed hours and still get all my holiday as well...

Have done a few of them over the past few months for various reasons, but have to make sure I've got a week spare for the snowboarding holiday in the winter!

I just work part time/self employed. I don't earn loads but I have lots of free time. 🙂

I've joined the part time for the whole year movement, 3 day week, 20 days holiday, still got 7 days left from last year.
Been part time for past 6 years, i'm 50 now and it was a bit of a struggle at first, cut your cloth and all that.
Life's too short to work your ball's off for stuff you don't need.

I've often thought about doing this.

Makes sense to me.

Unfortunately with kids and a wife wanting 'summer holidays' I guess it will have to wait. 🙂

I have a 4 day weekend as I only work 3 days a week, work is a necessary hassle that I endure and I'm not bothered about having money or owning a house - I should really enrol as an art student but at 42 I think I've left it too late.

I'm with Graham S - just given notice on teaching to find more family time and support wife's new business. Will need to find something PT - but will delay that.

I have my own business. So time is often precious but with two young kids I try to be home as much as I can. And unfortunately I have to have 'traditional' holidays. I am considering doing summer (as in the whole of school hols) hols from abroad with wifi next year though.

3 day weeks every week for me, totally skint but well happy.

I do a lot of long weekends, usually for races and that, and one or two full weeks a year. Always feels like you get the best "value" with weeks or less, 2 weeks is a long time to be off. Been hoarding holidays this year though so still got loads to take, happy days. Just taken a week off for Tweedlove and a week off for a trip to the alps and still got lots.

Random midweek days off are good too, really breaks up the week and I reckon I get more done in a weekend and a day than I do in a 3-day weekend.

Not the same as you guys. Continental shifts. 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off. Plus 24 days holiday. I "work" 158 days a year. If I take 4 days holiday I get 12 days away from work. The winter can be a drag, 4 days staring out of the window when it's too crap to get out and about, but that is more than made up for when the weathers OK.

I've been offered "better" jobs working normal Monday to Friday 9-5. Others can't understand why I don't want it, and that I'm happy working to live rather than the other way round.

Work is about 3 days so weekends are 4 days anyway. Only problem is lining stuff up with the missus to get away for some of them. It would be great is there was a nice full gravity race calendar that I could drive to.

I do a 4 day week and its a brilliant pattern. The day off advances a day every week and once every four weeks I get a Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon off. My last long weekend coincided with the BH weekend so thats two extra days credited to my leave card.

Its still full time, I do 9:40 minute days. There is also a 3 day week, 12:40 days which I would love, however I think I would need a good excuse such as kids and childcare requirements to justify it.

4 day week in my view makes for happier employees, you can get them in for a longer day which avoids the need for 'earlys/lates', reduces the time to lost for an employee to set up/close down for the day by 20%, reduces sick an employee might use to fit in the dentist/mot/vets, and makes them happier. Another big bonus for the company, 25% of your staff are available to come in on overtime when the work stacks up so reduces reliance on agency or having to over-staff. I had a whole year with practically no overtime, since Christmas I have worked almost every day off...the work is about to dry up just in time to have my days off for the better weather!

(I know this was about taking holiday, but I like banging the drum for alternative work patterns!)

I do 4 days working with an extra long Thursday 9 am to 1 am Friday as overtime . I usually then get Friday off unless I have a case listed . this was imposed on me as a result of funding cuts I got a 20 % pay reduction . The double Thursday allows me to reduce the pay loss a bit . I get a bit of a lie in on Fridays and normally get to spend some quality time with crankbrat . I really enjoy the long weekends and would find it hard to go back to 5 days the extra money would have to be good to trade off the loss of quality of life .
I do look forward to crankygirl qualifying in 2 years so I can drop the night work though .

I'm SE and find myself increasingly taking a Monday off then working like a dawg the rest of the week.
I've been hovering too close to the VAT threshold for a while now so that s my cue to take some more time off.
It's very hard to get into the mindset of saying no to work, especially with a fairly new business, but I'm getting there.
