Try not to die of boredom but yes, pensions.   New retirement age in Sweden is 64.  Since having children etc I have a relatively good understanding of my pension here.

what I am wondering is

A) Do I hope I die before I get old...?

B)  How do I get any pensions 'owed' to me from the UK?  I have no idea if I have anything, I worked largely as a contractor during my younger years but I did have a few permanent positions.

thanks!

Call your permanent jobs and get details.

Uk pension tracking services can find the details for free if you don't have them. Then check with uk and sweedish accountants or tax experts to see what your best plan is

Your best plan is just to suck it up and laugh at the futility of it all.

I've pretty much written off my pension pot in the UK as it simply wasn't worth the effort of transferring. Only had about 5 full years though, you may have more. So i'll simply get my UK pension paid to me in Sweden, which means it'll get taxed at Swedish rates (pretty much the same rate as salary) rather than the lower rates in the UK (no NI payments on a pension.)

The money i eventually get from my UK pensions will simply be a little bit of pin money to top up my Swedish pension, which will be *more* than adequate.

Still, as above, best off getting some professional advice, i'm looking into doing this again, as even with the pittance i have, Brexit might make it even worse. Or the money might disappear altogether.

thanks all, ghostlymachine, that is particularly interesting.  It would probably be around 5 years worth.  I work for the kommun so my pension will be good, especially if I work for them for the next 25+ years. weird writing that.

anyhow yes it's brexit that has me thinking really. Have you seen any proposals?  I have had a call or two from UK pension professionals but had dismissed them as trying it on etc. perhaps I should rethink

Yeah, the ones that contacted me were pretty much were trying it on. Seemed to have no idea of the specifics of transferring into a Scandinavian pension system, just wanted their cut. Which would have made my pot even smaller......

Catching them out lying about how they got my number didn't help (we rang the switchboard, no you didn't, this call is direct dialled, where did you get the number from? Silence............) and about their location (we're based in london, calling on behalf of your pension provider, company x". No, my pension isn't provided by them, and your call originated in South Africa, and you sound like a South African as well.......)

Think i'll do my own research rather than letting those who are economical with the truth deal with it.

And i'll get (at worst) 75% of my maximum company pension, if i go as early as i'm allowed, if i go all the way to my birthday, i'll be looking at nearly 90%. Plus a private pension and the state one when it kicks in.
