Repairing the entire corner of my old caravan (yes, that one, it's the back corner this time) I've noticed that the plywood on the inside seems to be thinner than the 3mm stuff I bought from B&Q.

It measures up as 2.7mm, and the new stuff 3.5mm or so. Is 2.7mm a typical size, and from where might one get it?

Does the 2.7mm relate to an imperial size?

Not sure, it's an early 90s van.

Was just a thought, 2.7 comes in close to 1/8"

I agree it would be unlikely if it was a 1990s build. I dont know if its still possible to get imperial size, im sure it exists somewhere but probably at a premium....

A quick google shows that 2.7mm is available.

you can get 2.5mm, just depends what ply you need... marine, exterior, birch etc.

b&q are the last place on earth i would buy ply, super expensive and utter rubbish.

i've got a couple of catalogues here i can have a look in if it will help.

Plywood is pretty randomly sized and often comes in thinner than claimed, not like MDF. It might just be 3mm.

It seems to be available from asian importers and/or by the crate.

B&Q is at the end of my road and I can walk out with it. If there's a better place I can just walk in and get a sheet I'd love to know (that's not sarcasm, I really would like to know!)

b&q = halfords of wood suppliers
go to your local timber merchants.

Normally can cut to size for pence too.

I buy quite a lot of wood but still use B&Q for the odd piece. They are often cheaper (although rarely on sheet materials), I can fondle it before I buy which helps me choose as I'm often designing on the fly and I can choose the bit I want by going through the stack and selecting the best bits. They'll cut to size for free as well.

Builder's merchants cut to size for free as well, but you need to get a trade account to get half decent prices. I use them a lot as I don't have a car and they deliver for free, so joists and sheets of Ply etc just appear on my doorstep 🙂

Better quality ply, e.g. marine can be obtained in thinner sheet sizes.

Poor quality ply tends to be a bit thicker as they are not using single layers to make up a sheet. So they need to make it thicker to get it to be structurally strong to overcome the problem with voids and gaps of using multiple pieces to make up the individual layers.

Just googled timber merchants, all seems to be trade near me.

The caravan stuff is very pale in colour, maybe it's birch? It's also very flexible, I think I'm going to struggle to bend the stuff I have to the required radius, which is 36cm.

Although it's going to be harder to figure out how to measure out the required size due to complex geometry.
