Jeez, I thought the Conservative party conference would be the forum for announcing the public spending cuts, but we now have two more weeks to wait. I hear today that the firm date is 20th October.

We know about the VAT increase, the Child allowance withdrawal for higher rate tax payers and the likely quadrupling of University fees, but as regards the full detail, I think we have been held in suspense long enough!

I wonder what the effects of all of these cuts will be. I wonder if the Conservatives are going to do what all parties seem to do; tax the easy passive targets! Well you aren't going to get hoardes of angry middleclass people turning cars over and looting buildings when things don't go their way.

I think increasing the already high cost of further education is a very long way from the party's so called "progressive" politics! Yeah, let's dumb Britain down even further eh? A sure fire way to get lots of cheap labour to exploit!

What a shocking mess Labour has created, but you can always rely on "more of the same" opposition government!

I have already predicted Labour will get back in at the end of this term, then we'll all REALLY be in it together! ("it" being the sinking ship!).

Hope springs eternal, but from nowhere near Westminster!!!!

People not going to uni does not mean a dumb population.

You could argue that university is not appropriate for most people anyway, and some form of apprenticeship or vocational training would be far better. And you'd be right too, cos it's true 🙂

Back to the main topic - I suspect they may announce far fewer cuts - all this talk is probably to prepare us for the worst and to an extent test the water - then they'll scrap some of the cuts and make a big deal out of having been nice.

EDIT: What's that story about the man who complained to the wise man that his house was too small, then he was told to put his cow in the house, then his horse and sheep and all, and when he took them out his house seemed huge?

What, so I'm supposed to go out and buy a horse, cow and sheep? That's the last thing I need.

The story is way older than that.. it's Aesop or something similar.
