Has anyone done this? Gone over as footpassengers on the Steampacket?

Is it possible to go over/do this for the day?

Looks like it should be fine if you're flexible with times.

Went for race week last year so not there and back in a day, but if the weather is good and you pick the race you want to see it should be a great day out.
Take your bike so you can get to the circuit quicker - you can take a bike on as a foot passenger.

If I was day tripping I'd be looking at flying rather than on the boat. In terms of cost, there's generally not a deal in it and the flights are 20 minutes each way rather than 2 1/2 hrs (4 if on the Ben) on the boat. Oh, and the boats are also likely to run late, even more so during TT.

I did it in 1991 I think. Overnight ferry from Liverpool absolutely rammed with hair and leather and every flat surface had someone asleep on it. Arrived in time for breakfast then walked up the road to the top of the mountain, dodging bikes all the way. Got the tram back down and the ferry back that night. Amazing day out ๐Ÿ™‚
