Help me please, 2 similar laptops connecting wirelessly to an ADSL router.

Laptop 1 = <1000 kbps
Laptop 2 = 2744 kbps

laptop 1 used to get 2744 but recently has dropped to <1000

I have tried

different browsers
system restore
MTU tweak

Any ideas please?

Antivirus software? Some of them are really slow at packet filtering/analysing.

Yes but 1 is not d/l anything while the other is speed testing.

Wifi signal is 5/5 for the slow pc.

I'm running spybot S&D to see if tha helps

Ate you SURE?

Could be doing background downloading for Windows Updates or virus scanner?
Some software could be updating itself. Or you could have a virus.

Try it without Laptop Two turned on.

I turned the radio off on 2, 1 is still rubbish.

I just ran the BT test which ignores the PC at the end of the line (some how) and laptop2 returns 2744
and yet a browser based speed test or just d/l a big file from somewhere only returns 1000 and most annoyingly web pages load really slowly.
