We've been clearing my late father's garage and came across the above bottle of wine. There is a slight tear on the label and some evaporation has occured. Otherwise, the lead cap is intact but the wine itself appears undrinkable, very pale and lots of sediment. Is it saleable do you think, any pointers?
Yes, google and you will find people who can sell it
email dave@planet-x-bikes.com - he might do a you deal for some bike kit (his dad was/is a wine dealer).
it's been kept in the garage so i'm guessing probably a big temperature range from just above freezing to baking hot so the wine will be most likely be undrinkable
As above, unlikely to have been at a decent temperature sadly. If well cared for, that sort of vintage would be comfortably over £1000 a bottle, however!
People still buy bottles like this even if it is undrinkable - to be honest you take pot luck if you buy wine of this vintage at auction - a lot will be undrinkable
Stick a "Beaujolais Noveau" label on it and some idiot will pay a fortune for it. Wine is the devil's piss imho
Whats the story behind it? I am sure it would be interesting.I remember clearing out the garage for a woman we had done plastering for since my Dad was an apprentice as she was going into a VERY posh home and finding unopened manuals for 1930's Bentleys, and the joystick from a hurricane!
djc1245 is a man (or woman) who has never tasted an impeccably stored vintage red.
Nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnon to the power of infinity!

You wouldn't need to, a bottle of Lafite '45 would get you a handbuilt Ti frame.
To be honest I only ever use the 45 in cooking.
Victor Rothschild was an MI5 officer during the war, dunno if that makes the wine worth any more.
Tried liking wine, red is worse than white, champagne gives you dog's breath.A good Lambrini is the wine of choice round these parts. Nice pint of beer any day will do me, be it lager or bitter or any of the real stuff from Mybrewerytap.
Finally, I was a man last time i looked.

Someone who is now very close to me, when I met them for the first time, received as the first words from my mouth, "NO! STOP! PUT THAT BOTTLE DOWN RIGHT NOW!".
She was putting '82 Mouton Rothschild in the gravy! Luckily we rescued the rest of that little stash from the cellar. It was very good gravy however!
djc1245, hard to tell the gender from your name! A good pint is a great thing, I agree, but once in a while, a truly great wine is astonishing. Such as the '82 mentioned above! 8)
In my younger days i used to take a bottle of Thunderbird to parties....now that is class eh.
Wine is lovely, if a tad overrated most of the time. Even wine buffs know that - it's a market thing.
