He's obviously got some mental health issues. Crazy sentence though, can kill someone and get less.

Cos he's homeless, can't argue that going to prison would be too hard for him.

“The offences are so serious as only a prison sentence will suffice,”

I would have thought the theft stuff at the airport would have been a greater charge than the marathon number.

Sounds a bit like the judge is considering that it might have been the start of him regularly impersonating people. And I suspect having a primary school workers id card on him would have been a big factor in sentencing.

Dunno, all I know is what's in that article.

Does seem very harsh for someone with mental health issues, which the sentence will only make worse....

Bit misleading

clearly sentenced for a number of other serious convictions rather than the marathon thing

He should have ran over a man riding a bike on a horse with his car instead

The newspaper article I read clearly stated 13 weeks for that race fraud which seems completely ridiculous.

The two magistrates I have known well, have been power-crazed cretins, desperate to make a name for themselves as disciplinarians.  This ridiculous event does not surprise me.

I may be wrong, but I think the initial reporting on the event said he had multiple previous convictions, that may have been a factor.

Also wasn't he up on multiple charges?

Sounds like poor reporting TBH. I'd suspect the primary school worker's ID (so child protection issues) and notes of airport security staff hours (airport security/counter terrorism) are the key things here.

Utterly nuts

He may be, but it is insensitive to use such terminology.

He had 3 weeks for other offences and 13 weeks for the marathon fraud, see:

Just read this, I can't make head nor tail of the logic used in the sentencing. Seems like the london marathon organisers were keen to make an example of him though.

Yeah, it looks like they’ve gone the extra mile to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Oh very good.

As compared with an 8month suspended sentence for pre-mediated assault? You couldn't make this stuff up.

Oh sorry, 16 month suspended sentence. Because that makes all the difference.

He steals stuff. He's off the street. What's not to like?

1 - He's homeless with mental issues. Jail is probably not the best environment, when he is released, he'll probably be a bigger problem than when he went inside.

2 - 13 weeks of that sentence is for chancing his luck after picking up a marathon number on the ground, 3 weeks is for actual crimes. Does that seem right?
